Hi everyone (first post)

I have a volvo regional final at the Frilford red course next tuesday (my birthday). Just wondering if anyones played it and has any inside info for me please?

Played it a few weeks ago. Red is the longest course and a bit more open than some of the others. Good track with some good strong holes. It is a heathland course, so some of the fairways are a bit bumpy and there is gorse around, so keeping the ball on the fairway is important. Some of the greens are small and kick the ball off. I would probably recommend a reasonably conservative strategy, fairways and greens, aiming for the safer 'bail-out' side of the green.

Sounds good. I do tend to play conservative to be fair so should be a interesting day. Cant wait to get down their playing different courses is what its all about for me.

Well done matey. I'm playing in the finals also. I have played it once (a week ago) and it's an excellent course (red) although I found quite a few of the greens really difficult to read. It only has three par threes and I didn't get a shot on any of them (even playing off a 14 handicap). The back nine is par 5, par 3, then 7 par 4s (two of the par 4s are 474 and 469 yards off the white tees). I'm sure for me the game will be decided on the greens.
On Sunday they have an open black tees competition, which is only 40 quid including pie and chips so I've entered that. I think most of the people in that comp are volvo finallists having a practice round. (there are only 5 holes with black tees). I'm teeing off at 1120 on Tues (M.Davis) so will look ou for you and maybe grab a coffee with you (you never know, I may even buy you a birthday beer afterwards!!)
I'm going down there today to watch the final round of the European Tour Q school to so how the boys do it properly. (Although the guy who showed me the way round there a week ago went round in one under par)

I played in the same event last year, well organised day by Volvo. Its a good course with some very strong holes, however last year the greens were very poor, inconsistent and generally slow, this in my opinion let what was otherwise an excellent course badly down.

I'm sure they will be better this year, I hope you do well. From memory 35 points was good enough last year.

Cheers guys i cant wait. Bash good luck to you mate unfortunately il have to turn down the beer as il be driving 3 hours their and back in same day. Still cant wait to bag my 22 points and blame the greens when i get in ha.
