Just spoke to a golf club I'm interested in joining and they have offered me a free round to come and view the course and have a look around.
I thought this was a great touch and a positive way to welcome new members or potential new members. Other clubs I spoke to offer half price rounds but this one has made me look forward to playing even more.

Playing Friday morning and hopefully will have a membership soon and can look forward to the coming season.

Has anyone else been offered free golf or have you had to pay???

I was offered a free round for 2, so I took my Dad as well. It worked for the club though, as I did join, and ten years later am still there. Well worth the cost (nothing?) of giving a free round away.

It's a nice touch, most clubs these days need to attract members and one of the best ways for me is to offer free rounds to potential members.

Yeah my club did it too, my mate who I joined with at the same time thought he was robbing them in some way and so when the sales patter came along its was "YES YES YES".

I think it is becoming a much more common occurence and some have quoted on here that they would even consider not looking to join a club that didn't offer this try before you buy policy.

We have regular membership weekends where prospective members get to meet the captain, get 9 holes with the captain, vice or committee member and then a chance to play a whole round at another time

Like you say Homer, it's a great way for the clubs to attract new members.
I always find it a bit off putting when a club doesn't seem keen for your business. A free round isn't much to offer and there are a few clubs around me that I have been interested in that haven't offered any incentive for potential new members.

I really hope this club is as nice as it looks on the website and as friendly as I hope it is. After my long quest to join the correct and most suitable club I hope this is the one. :)

Its becoming common in a lot of industries now. I almost have to offer a free driving lesson to start to get them in, almost every other instructor does this too. Worthwhile if they're going to spend nearly a grand with you!

We still ave a 2 year waiting list at our club and a 1K joining fee, so they don't realy need to give any incentives. Things might change in the future, but at the moment, thats the way it is.
