In this months GM there is a full page add for Cleveland Golf and here is the deal :::::

Buy a set of their new irons and when Cleveland introduce a replacement series you can trade your irons for a brand new set for HEE HAW - - NADA - - ZILCH - - EFF ALL.

Is this commercial genius or commercial suicide???

Trouble is mono I believe you. What was it you were buying last night???

I'm sure there must be some catch like a limited time as I'm sure they couldn't possibly envisage someone buying CG14 or whatever their current model is and then shelling out in three or more years to whatever their latest model is then.

Its an interesting offer and one I missed. Cleveland do make some good gear especially woods and wedges but I have always thought their irons were a bit middle of the road. Functional and not bad to look at but just dull. The Phil Collins of the iron world!

Odd idea....but probably going to help shift a few sets.

It seems fairly logical to me. Golf clubs are not expensive to make; the retailer will make the initial sale and then have to "let you have" the next set when they come out. It's like making only 50% on each set of the normal profit margin.

Still wouldn't tempt me - I know how much Cleveland were selling the "set before" (wholesale) to retailers....

It looks like the only "catch" is that you must change them before the end of 2011 for the same, or "equivalent" model in their range.

It sounds a great offer if you are the type of player who changes his clubs often. But no doubt you will be paying full retail for them in the first place??? And it doesn't sound like you can progress up to the better irons in the range and pay a price difference.

Is there any small print?

No matter how well you look after clubs there will be some wear and tear over a year or two - I imagine they have to be in a certain condition for you to get the second set?
