today while playing the 18th at a local muni , there is a small drainage ditch underneath some trees , my ball found it , when I went in to look for it , there laid out in the ditch was a Nike covert driver with a broken shaft , looked to be nearly brand new , strange place to leave a club broken or not , was in two minds whether to hand it in at clubhouse or just leave it , stupid place to leave a club , if it had broken and you were lodging it out , you wouldn't stash it in a ditch would you , left it there in the end , do you think that was the right thing to do ?

Wow...... could you not have taken it and stuck a new shaft in it?

The thought did cross my mind , but it was sort of hidden away , I thought the person may come back for it , but why leave it there , if it was discarded I'd have had it but didn't want to steal it

Helicoptered in rage, then didnt see where it ended up and then stupidly couldn't find it? It wasn't me honest! I would have handed it in if I'd found it.

Hand it in every time. Unbelievably, I lost 2 headcovers and a sand wedge last week (2 separate days), but nothing was handed in. Cost doesn't bother me, just that someone could be scum enough to keep them.

Funilly enough, I found an iron cover 2nd day, which I handed in. Hope the golfing gods curse whoever picked up my sand wedge with an incurable slice. Or better still, an incurable fat shot that sends violent vibrations up their arms!

Don't despair.
Golfers often find stuff on the course, pick them up and forget to hand them in.
Keep checking in the pro shop, they might turn up.

I would of thought best course of action would of been to hand it in at the shop rather than just leave it.
Always so much nicer to get anything left on the course back from the shop a week or so later rather than thinking some scally has had it away.

It was not thrown there , it was all laid out with head cover etc , as I said it was hidden there , no doubt about it, for this reason I didn't hand it in , because the owner may have been returning and would have thought it lost , just weird

I agree, that's pretty unusual.

If it's still there the net time you play, I'd either hand it in or report it to the pro about where it is on the course.

I'd have taken it in.
Can't think of a logical reason for "hiding" it on the course to come back later and get it....

Rule 1 of helicoptering a club...

Keep your eye on it - ignore the ball!

That's what I'm failing to understand though Ian. If the owner had choppered it, why send the headcover with it?

Maybe he just didn't like them and was getting rid so he could claim on his insurance and get a proper driver instead...

Why hide it, I'd just put it back in my bag especially with it being a brand new £250 club

I'd probably have handed it in, hoping that if it was unclaimed I'd get to keep it and pop a new shaft in it
