Just back from the range......I kind of knew going out that it may be a waste of time as wind and rain dont normally put me off but when i arrived the wind was straight into the bays and it was driving the rain in so far the benches at the back were actually getting wet......

I didnt feel particularly energetic after a days work but thought that hitting a few wedges would suffice.....
I though wrong......I couldnt get any rhythm whatsoever going......I have a very deliberate backswing but felt like i was in a rush to get to the ball causing all manner of tripe.....
In the end i threw the white towel at the weather and decided that since i couldnt really work on my swing that i could at least try out a few things.....

I dropped the wedges, grabbed my 4 iron and hybrid and started practicing knock down shots into the teeth of the wind.....I played them all off the back foot...Not sure if that was too far back or not but they were taking off like bullets out under the wind.....

I went from a 7 iron all the way down to my 3 wood.....
I felt like i was a million miles away from the positions that my Pro wants me to get into ( swinging down the line ) but i suppose i knew what i was doing was right for the shot at hand.....

I think looking back now i can take some positives from the session even though i couldnt get to work on what i really wanted....

Sometimes the weather and the working day conspire to make practice a fruitless exercise. If I've already got a bucket I'll try and few shots but would rather just work on pitches, short shots etc. If you are hitting ok when you play I wouldn't wory about one poor session

I make you right practicing the knock down shots. I know from bitter recent experience that if you try that shot and are not confident with it and/or execute it poorly you are in for a nightmare in the wind. It WAS valuable practice!

Ye, Some nights I put the lights on and stick a ball on the matt and wonder why I am out there but usually find something constructive to work on. The other night I did not want to be out there so started working on sawn off follow through shots to create some spin. I got lots of good feeling from it and walked away feeling I had learned something.

I have cut my sessions right down, I used to do 90 mins or so a night and realised that it was going from constructive to not so and back. I do about 30/40 mins max now and make sure some of that is chipping.

Not long back from the range. Just a quick 25 balls then off the puting green.

I had to laugh to myself as once the ball got up it the air it was literally 90 degrees left. Starting lovely and straight or fractionally right, only to finish 40 yards left

Went onto the Huxley green and, yes, the Bettinardi is still behaving.

My bro was cracking me up at the weekend on the range... "look how much I am drawing the ball today!"... I just pointed at the flags...

Al', I ain't kidding pal. At the range there is a green at about 100 yards. 2 greens at 150 yards and another 2 at 200 yards with the further back you go, the higher the greens are (Range plays uphill)

The flags at the 200 yard green were almost bent double!
