I bought my sister a round of golf for her birthday, she took it up 2 years ago and has got down to 28 from 36, and decided that FoA was fairly local and a top course/setup.
The folks decided it would be nice to go away for a night so the 4 of us went, through golf breaks, my sister & I payed £130 for D,B&B and 2 rounds of golf, the folks £90 for D,B&B.
Our deal was to play on the Arden on the first day and Aylesford on the second day.

The Arden course is a favourite of mine already but it was in lovely condition, if not a little wet from Sunday's drenching. The fairways were like carpet, and fortunately mown towards the green so approach shots were easier to get cleanly. The greens were like lightning and very true. but did not take as much borrow as I'm used to on speedy greens such as the Brabazon.

My golf on the Arden was OK, I was given permission to play off the whites to make it a little more interesting.
1st included a snap hooked tee shot with a rescue so I wasn't expecting much.
The 3rd was an improvement and played as a good regulation par - driver - 5 iron - lob wedge
My highlight on the front 9 was birdieing the 8th, par 3 over water, I hit a nice 8 iron (wind behind) pin high and knocked in a 6 footer.

The back nine is my preferred nine and started with a no putt par. I hit 3 wood, 6 iron into the greenside bunker. From a plugged lie it just ran across the green and then I chipped in.
The other highlight of the course was a birdie 4 on the 17th. Because the group in front were so slow I layed up with my 9 iron 2nd and then hit wedge in.

It is a lovely course with some very attractive aspects and I would recommend it particularly the par 5's which I finished 1 under par. But it was very slow, nearly 6 hours and I didn't play well.

The Aylesford course is shorter and less interesting but a decent "2nd course". Personally I would always choose a deal that included the Arden course. But I enjoyed the game despite being paired up with a H&W pairing who played off 25 + 36 and my own poor form.

The hotel was welcoming, the rooms a good size and the food in the Oaks grill very good.

All in all, despite crap golf, a very enjoyable break and my Sister seemed the really enjoy her taste of championship course golf.
