Due to a fault I received these in exchange for a pair of the 2011 design. Now I loved the 2011 model. They were so comfortable and the leather was really soft and flexible. They were my favourite shoes and it was a real disappointment when the Boa lacing system jammed.

I am not normally one to post a bad review but the newer model are such a disappointment when compared with the older version.

Lets start with the leather. It feels stiffer and just not of the same quality as last year. Whilst these are the equivalent model they just feel a bit 'clunky'.

The real killer for me, however, is the padding on the sole of your feet. FJ shoes are normally like wearing slippers but the bottom of my feet ache after 18 holes in these. I have given these half a dozen rounds but after each one the bottom of my feet hurt like hell. That is not something that I have had with any other shoe, cheap or expensive. They fit fine, there just does not seem to be enough padding under my feet.

On the positive side, the Boa lacing system has been improved and feels more precise and more 'solid' if that makes sense.

Overall though, I am very disappointed. FJ shoes have always been comfortable out of the box and these simply are not. I have no idea what they have done to cause this but the soles of my feet have ached after every round and that is not good, especially as last year's model was so comfortable and bearing in mind the £100 price tag.

Thanks for the review. I was really considering these as my next pair, but have now ruled them out.

I have actually emailed FJ to see if there could be something wrong with them because they are so unlike a normal FJ shoes. Despite any other faults that FJ may have had over the years, they have always been comfortable and that is why I was so surprised.

This was my impression of Contours. A lot of folks on here have said that the older ones were like slippers which is why I was interested in them as I have problems with my feet.

Well, to be fair to FJ, their customer service department have been pretty quick in replying to my emails. They have no reported faults or defects of this type and suggested that it may be that I am not used to the Boa lacing as it pushes down on the top of the foot not the side. As that cannot be the case (my faulty pair of 2011 Contours had Boa lacing and were the most comfortable pair of shoes that I have owned) then the only answer is that the 2012 Contour is just a damned uncomfortable pair of shoes. Never thought I would say this about FJ shoes. I have had other issues with them but every pair have been very comfortable out of the box but on this occasion, FJ have released a pair of shoes that are not very pleasant to wear and are unbearable for 18 holes.
