Football Legends

Terry? Seriously?

In my opinion a legend needs to be a world class player and a role model.
John Terry is a very poor role model.

Take your point but to be a 'legend' at a football club you dont have to be well behaved. Best & Cantona are examples

My mate and playing partner, Wullie Pettigrew [aka Willie p] is a Motherwell fc, Dundee United fc, and Hearts fc, hall of fame, legend player and captain, with 5 Scottish caps .

Back in the days when we had a lot of really good players.

Ah - Willie Pettigrew - now he scored some goals - cracking player :)

My Arsenal club legends from my life time include:

Dennis Bergkamp
Tony "Mr Arsenal" Adams
Thierry Henry

You could class Big Nick Bendtner as a club legend... he's just finished a 9 year stint, probably one of the longest serving in a while!!

Legends

Bremner
Hunter
Clarke

Then

Currie
Mckenzie

Then

Vinnie
Strachan

Then

Speedo RIP
Batty

Then

Viduka
Ferdinand & Smith (sorry delete that one went to Scumchester)

Now

???

Last recent legend at Villa Park Olof Mellberg

fan favourite and announced he was leaving end of season 2008 in the January... now usually when you hear this in January the player at best would bumble about on and off the bench in and out the reserves picking up ££££ and giving less than 100%.

Mellberg gave it everything every game and bought from his own pocket every fan at the last game that year (away at West Ham) a replica shirt with a thank you message for the support. Villa legend and rightly so

Mellberg -

"But the fans are the people who are paying our salaries and if they weren't, I wouldn't have made the money I have made.

"So it wasn't an issue. I always tried to repay their support on the pitch.
"I have tried to repay their support by always trying to give 100 per cent on the pitch and always giving my best.
"That's what fans appreciate more than anything. It was also a chance for me to say: 'thank you' in a different way."
