Why did you choose that certain DMD over any other, ie why a laser over GPS and visa versa. And with hindsight would you swap for the other type??

I'm debating getting an S3 having previously owned a Hillman range finder.

I had a GPS but it was very inaccurate on my home course. I reported it and had an email back to say the course had been remapped and to download it again. It was still wrong so I changed to a laser. Now accurate to 1 yard which is good enough for me.

:smirk: I had a sky caddy and had trouble with the battery , was in the shop to collect the replacement when a salesman was there with the garmin s5 , no annual 30 quid fee and easy to use so i swapped there and then as the pro let me have it on loan for a bit so much did i like it i got a new one , no regrets , its better then the laser ones as they are u/s on blind shots , why pay the money and still have to guess the yardage , its a no brainer ,.......:smirk:

Similar boat to you, I have the Hillman and it is a great device, but if I had the chance again I would have picked a gps device here is why. The hillman is good at specific targets aimed at, if I cant focus on the flag I point to the front of the green, all well but I still have to point and shoot so to speak. I have the sky droid for the phone and what a difference it tells me distance to front middle and back also all hazards and unlike the Hillman I know the distance even if I cant see the flag.

i got a laser as I couldn't be bothered to subscribe/down load. It lets me measure what I want, distance to flags/bunkers etc

rubbish in low light/mist & rain but I'd probably choose it again as it gives flexibility

I love your posts, I'm still trying to work out what language you post in :D

Golf Buddy World Platinum.
Full colour touch screen, full list of hazards, waterproof, over 44,000 courses already installed so no downloading nonsense and the biggest draw no Subcription Charges. It also moves holes automatically once you reach the green and then move to next tee(not if you stray onto wrong fairway). My mates SkyCaddie has to be changed manually.
Also gives distances for dog legs by touching screen and if you touch the green it enlarges to allow for pin placement to get more accurate distance. Good if you are coming from the left or right.

Just into my 3rd year which would have cost me £87 for only Uk and Ireland courses in that time. My pro sells for £280 for it and SkyCaddy was £229 plus subs.

what about the blind shots , no dont tell me yours is a flat course , iford golf centre ? played there in charity day for a friends golf day

used to play there, not anymore :D

there are no blind tee shots at my place , surely when you've played a course a few times you don't really need any kind of DMD?

I use mine maybe 10 times a round at Brokenhurst, we've also got measurements to the middle on the sprinkler heads

Brock , good course , looks short some of the holes but a good track , i hear they clearing trees out in the area , hows all this rain affecting your course

it's got a good mix of holes. par 3's and the back to back 450 yard par 4's toughen it up a bit.

All of the forest gets wet in the winter something to do with a clay base. The course is a bit wet at the moment but perfectly playable, all main greens etc with a couple of mats in play

Went for the laser for it's versatility, joint point , aim, measure, but it does let me down when the flag is limp. On return may look at getting gps if course i end up at has blind holes although do not like them.

Bushnell V2 laser..
Had a gps originally but my home course don't have a system to inform you where the pin is on the green. We have some greens that are uphill approaches and some that have mounds in front , you can't see the bottom of the flag making it difficult to judge position.
If the flag is on the front of a 35 yard green but you judge it to be at the back - well you can see now why I changed to a laser.
As long as you can see a hazard you can "ping"it with the laser or you can target a nearby tree or mound.

No download fees, usable anywhere and the battery lasts a few months.

I had the S1 new but soon took it back and exchanged it FOC and paid the extra for the S3

Just found the S3 extra features worth the extra pounds
