On the back of "Enough is enough," I went for my Flightscope session along with getting the whole (embarrassing) thing video'd.

So just what was wrong and why?

My slightly closed stance, to aid a draw, had turned into something fully slammed shut. To clear the left side(right handed), and to give the chance of hitting the ball down the target line, I was casting and coming out to in. But to stop a pull I was coming through with the club face open. Add to that, the weak right hand grip that I thought was too strong. And the ball was a wee bit too far back in the stance, causing a decending blow and an increased spin rate of 3500rpm - the whole thing looked bl00dy awful!

Club head speed with all the rubbish ~99mph, and loss of yardage because of swingpath/alignment/clubface. Sorted stance/grip/alignment ~105mph. Ball flight and length after sorting, WOW!

Having got to the bottom of the problems, we moved onto playing with different drivers and shafts. Boy did I love the 913D2 will a reg shaft!! Yes please. And the pro said...wait for it... I'd advise you don't buy anything till you've bedded in the changes, and got your old swing back. A couple more sessions to confirm things are ok, then we'll look at a new driver if needed.

The cost for 45mins on the practice ground, and 30mins including a coffee and bacon sandwich reviewing the Flightscope figures and vid's - nothing. "Call it a follow up after buying the gear in early May, and you spend enough in here anyway."

Hobbit, your swing sounds exactly like mine !!!
I returned to golf last year after a four year break, everything felt awkward, grip, ball position, alignment, etc etc.My old ball flight was a gentle draw,a bad shot was further left,or a slight block if i got quick. My new swing (if you can call it that) can be anything from a full on hook,to a straight block right,i still hit plenty of good shots, but never feel comfortable.Last week whilst playing with a mate from my former club,he commented on my swing being very different to before, and video'd it on his phone to show me,it was everything you've described !!!!!
Never been one for practicing, but i will try making a few adjustments, and see what happens.
Best of luck with the changes you've made.

Didnt happen to be a trip up to a certain scottish pro in Edinburgh did it? :D
Good man, there are still plenty of guys putting off a visit to the pro thinking they can sort it themselves.

Sounds completely normal.... this puts you in the 'most golfers' category where you aim right of the target and pull the ball left with a kinda OTT move. Not sure you need to go to the regular shaft, a firm (rather than stiff) might suit, but if you love the driver you tested and it's giving you the right stats then wahey!

I was kinda implying that your driver shaft may be too stiff for your swing on the other thread but wasn't about to argue that point.....HOWEVER your blocked shots may actually be down to the swing that you describe above and NOT the shaft.

Alignment has to be the No1 fault in the swing and one of the easiest AND HARDEST to fix, tell someone they are standing closed and they normally fight to the death that they're not.

So what you gonna do with your RBZ's now?

JO, the 3 wood stays. No way you're getting it, you hit it too well. The driver will probably end up in the garage.
