With lessons and lots of practice my short game is improving. On the very short shots or fuller shots my tendency to flick at the ball has been eliminated but on the shots between 1/4 and 3/4 I am still flicking like a Subutteo master on speed. I can play one handed shots with just my left hand on the club confidently (right handed player) but as soon as I use both hands I start to flip the right hand through, often resulting in a thinned shot.

Can anyone suggest a drill which may help this destructive habit?

The problem as I see it is your right hand is flicking the ball up in the air when it doesn't need to. The loft of the club will do that.
A drill I use is
Place a head cover or something similar about a foot behind the ball and make sure you dont hit it on the downswing.
That will give you a more descending angle of attack into the ball, preferably taking a small divot with EVERY shot.
Ball in the centre of a narrow stance, weight mainly on the front foot, hold the club at or near the bottom of the grip and vary the length of swing for the distance required.
HTH :)
