The reason I ask is we have a TPI Certified fitness instructor who has recently joined the coaching staff at our place. I had an assessment done and by assessing my flexibility (or rather lack of) she pretty much nailed every problem I've been struggling with for the past couple of years.

She developed a stretching programme for me to loosen off the all the problem areas. And there are many !!!

It's something I've always wondered about. I've had swing coaching for the past 3 years and always seem to have trouble getting into the positions my coach wanted me to, or if I could, then it was really forced.

And it's not that I'm unfit. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. And it's probably a lot of the weight training I've done over the past 10 years that has caused it.

So does anyone else do any golf specific training, stretching etc ?

And do you think having good flexibility is important if you want to improve ?

We see a lot of tips, drills in magazines for the swing. But rarely see anything on golf fitness, which seems to be becoming more and more critical, at least for the pro's.

Yes flexibility is very important. I am naturally flexible. Mainly due to type of work. Don't do any exercises for it though, other than a few stretches before playing.
