I'm after a new driver and some new irons. I guess if I'm going to be spending that amount of money I should probably get fitted. I have a fairly open mind as to brands etc, but would like somewhere with a decent selection to try.

Was going to travel up to the Belfry, but that seems a little far to travel. Does anyone have any suggestions in Essex or the South East that could do a fitting and have a decent selection of clubs to try?

+1 for lee! I emailed him that question when i was looking and his reply was;

KZG
Tom Wishon
Miura
Vega
Callaway
Taylor Made
Mizuno

He's at Hylands golf complex i think its called, just off the A12.

If you do choose him, check out the Muira heads in the glass display cabinet!

Lee Porter at Highlands Golf Range is certainly an option, but from personal experience I am not sure I would visit him again.

I went to him about a year or so ago with driver issues. What I wanted from him was a driver fitting, actually more to the point I wanted to know what shaft would ideally suit the driver I had at the time. I explained this to him very clearly and said that whilst I knew my swing wasn't ideal I didn't want lessons per say just some assistance with finding a driver shaft that suited my swing.

The long and the short of it was what should have been an hours shaft fitting turned into a lesson with explanation after explanation about why my swing needed to be altered. I left Lee that day more confused than when I went in and I'm afraid non it helped much.

One place I will recommend is Direct Golf at Romford. They have a good team up there and they spent a good hour plus with me on flight scope trying different shafts in the Callaway driver head I had at the time. I actually ended up upgrading to the RFX I have now because the combination of the Aldila Trinity shaft and RFX head seems to suit my swing down to the ground. Still gaming the driver now and couldn't be happier with it.

Another recommendation for Lee here - though only second-hand.

A mate is certainly very happy with the service.

Does seem like you need to discuss and agree with him what you are wanting though.

Enjoy, but resist the tempttion of Miura, Vega and specialist Japan Forged wedges. The Law of Diminishing Returns on Investment is off the scale with these imo!
