For just over a year now I have had a Jawbone up, recording steps and how I sleep.

I used to wear it on my left wrist and always thought my step count was a bit low, now it is on my right wrist my step count has increased dramatically. I have to add that my daily routine / golf course rounds have stayed pretty much the same

Has anyone else found something similar

They are only accurate up to a point so you get lots of "false" steps - especially if you wear it on your dominant wrist. I have a fitbit and you can configure that to say which wrist you have it on. I wear it on the non-dominant side but have told it the opposite - I'd rather undercount than overcount.

Interestingly I find drying my hair seems to give a lot of "steps".

At the end of the day, it's only a relative measure of your activity and the number will just have a rough correlation to actual steps.

Brushing teeth adds a good amount of steps to my Garmin device! My health insurance offers 'points' you accumulate through being active, which lead to rewards and discounts. I'm pretty good at ensuring I get the maximum possible steps per day!!

On my fitbit i needed to tell it whether it was on my dominant wrist or non. This will then factor into the step calculation. Also you can edit your step distance so its more accurate, but its still ever so slightly guess work.
