Well thats my first round finished, christ i had a nightmare, such big difference between the range and the course, i topped loads of balls, my driving of the tee was a joke and lost 2 balls in the water.
Saying that i hit a tee shot on a par 3 and hit the green and made a 3, also drove on a par 4 and was on the green in 2 and finshed with another par, the drive was so sweet and straight it was a beaut, anyway back to the drawing board, think i was getting frustrated and rushing my shots unlike when i'm down the range....
Anyway the only way is upwards to be honest

Yep .... we've all been there!

It will get better I promise, but if it were easy then it wouldn't be the fun!

Chris

I suspect you're doing exactly that, rushing and also looking up to see where your glorious shots are going.

It's to be expected at this stage though, it's exciting being out on the course though isn't it? You'll get used to that soon enough and should settle into your rhythm. Everybody goes through a stage of lifting their head at some point whilst they're learning. Mine lasted 7 years...

Yeah i did hit a few nice shots, but deffo rushed the majority, also need to learn how to set up my tee height again, think i was tee up far too low.

Thanks for the update. Don't worry, fairly typical first experience of playing on a real golf course.

Sounds like you have a good attiude. It's early days, stay positive and keep practising.

You have also discovered one of the great truths of golf at our level - hitting balls on the range is nothing like playing on the course.

Saying that i hit a tee shot on a par 3 and hit the green and made a 3, also drove on a par 4 and was on the green in 2 and finshed with another par, the drive was so sweet and straight it was a beaut,

Well done. That's what keeps us all going back for more. In any round, however bad, there's always something to give you hope for the future. :)

Keep going and good luck.

Don't worry it only gets worse!! :D

Remember the good ones put the others out your mind and next time aim for 3 good shots.

With a username like that you've got to be in my kneck of the woods!

Chin up - getting a couple of pars is a great start - it took me about a dozen rounds before that happened. :)

I'm sure if you add up the duff shots and take them of the score it looks much more respectable. These will get fewer and fewer as you get better, great cause for hope for me at least.

2 regulation pars is a good start.
Just keep aiming for more of those, as we all have blow up holes don't worry to much about those. You'll learn how to reduce there impact in time.

Good start. I've now played 8 rounds and have only had 3 pars in total! In more recent rounds though I have managed to avoid the dreaded double digit scores.

u been getting lessons from thecraw?

Two pars is pretty good going 1st time out mate. I think I shot 147 my 1st ever round, I don't remember the exact details but I doubt very much there were any pars in there :D

Well played Marty. I'm coming to the end if my first season inna full size course and it's been tough going. Know exactly what you mean about rushing. Two gross pars is a great start. I've just started thinking of my scores as stableford scores as it helps you build positivity and worry less about the inevitable nightmare holes. Look forward to hearing mire about your future exploits.

Best thing was the par 3 has a river running past it, so well chuufed with it, rolled to the edge of the green after my tee shot then 2 putted, i was buzzing....
I did hit an 11 on a massive par 5 as well but anyway onwards and upwards....

One thing you'll develop (probably sub-consciously) is some sort of pre-shot routine and this will help slow you down. At the moment though you might need to really think about taking your time with each shot without getting frozen over the ball. It will come and it was a decent first effort

Plenty to be happy about. Some good shots, two gross pars and the start of your proper golfing career. Keep going and one day it'll magically click into place if only for a short while

How long before that happens Homer? I'm still waiting.
