So I had my first ever Medal yesterday and was paired with two single figure handicappers. This was my first competition at my club and I was a little nervous!

Stepped onto the first shook hands with my playing partners and also met the club captain, they all made me feel welcome even though I'm a 24 handicapped hacker.

The round itself went quite well, I ended up on a high score, net 82 but really enjoyed myself. My driving was brilliant, hit almost every fairway and my long irons were also pretty good. Everything I hit had a really nice strike.

My main issue was short game, the little chip and runs from around 20 yards and my putting - I also hit a few ponds which looking back I don't normally hit them (maybe just nerves)

Spoke to the club pro after my round about some short game lessons and maybe a new putter - mine seems to be very light, maybe a little too light for me.

Bring on Pay day!

It does get a little easier now you've got the first one out of the way although there must have been a awful lot of wasted shots on and around the green if your driving and long irons were as good as you said.

Medal play is always tough and so try and play within yourself and if you get in trouble take the shortest route out. At least next time you won't be so nervous and know can relax and let your game flow. If its any consolation I had an NR in my medal today.

Good to get one played and in the bag.

Having only recently done the same thing (2 weeks ago)I can assure you that the next comp is a lot easier in terms of nerves. Still a bit of a twitch on my behalf but a hell of a lot better and more relaxed.

I think I even managed to chat (well at least made some sense) this round :o.

Also getting to know a few different people and got a few invites to play so all in all very pleased i took the plunge and entered.
