Turned up to my first comp at the new club on Saturday morning expecting some team 2from3 stableford type event as suggested by my playing partner.

Wrong. Straight forward medal..

Wow, why did it make me change the way I think about the game? But it did. And bit me big time on the backside.

Started OK bogie bogie. Then a triple 7 after being in the water on the 3rd.

Then its in my head that I'm chasing the score. I'm hitting driver well but approach shots I'm hitting fat. Then trying to go at pins instead of middle greens to compensate. This doesn't work and I'm in bunkers that I didn't even know existed before. Double bogies galore.

Now puts are being missed and its all gone pearshaped....

End up 102 gross 79 net. My first entry into HDID... Not a qualifier apparently, but lots of lessens learnt in one round.

Checked my stats afterwards. 75% of fairways hit 0% GIR.

Oh well

Onwards and upwards.

Saturday night was Captains dinner/dance black tie event which we attended.. Good night. great food. Spent some time sneaking into the bar to watch the masters. Captain mentioned us in the speech as I think it was a shock that 'new' members had attended the first 'dinner'...

Anyway back out tomorrow to practice and bring on the next medal....

Well done Jack, not the worst score in your first medal, but unlike Stableford you can't hide an really bad hole, better to play the safer approaches.

Well done Jack. Played in my first medal this weekend too. Started off well and was on for a good score and a cut but some how managed to dump a ball from a 100yards into a ditch after laying up on a par four. Walk off with an 8. Ended up shooting a net 74 with par at 71 so in the buffer an am really happy with it. Played the next day in the stableford, the less said about that the better. In my defence it was windy

It was cold and windy Saturday morning... Wasn't expecting to be so harsh...

I had a more than one hole where I was green side in 2 and walking off with doubles.... All issues I know are fixable though..

Desperate to get out and play again to banish the memory of the first 100+......

At least the next medal won't be as daunting. Medals are tricky customers as we play way too much stableford. Every shot has to be treated as precious and if I'm honest, I probably play a little too conservatively. For me, driving is an issue (49% of FIR) and so it is about trying to keep it in play. From there I can score and even if I miss the fairway, providing it isn't lost or OB I can usually use my shot. Bogey can still be your friend
