Hi guys

I've been playing golf for around one year now and joined my first club in May this year. I'm yet to hand in any scorecards, may seem silly but it's due to a lack of confidence and wanting to get a few months of semi-regular golf under my belt.

Stupidly I only started making a note of the date on my scorecards in the last couple of months. I've worked out my average strokeplay score since the start of November and it is 90.83, with my lowest score being 86 and my highest 96.

I know there'll be a lot that goes in to calculating a handicap (not a clue what these are) but from the above could anyone give a slight clue as to what my first handicap could be?

Thanks in advance.

depends on the course, whats the SSS/par (I think I am right), if its 72 then it could be based on the lowest card and be 14 h/c!

I am only basing that on what others have posted and received from their clubs

18 to 20 be about right if the info you have given is correct ................get the 3 cards in and start playing in comps and you soon find your handicap level ..........................................eyg :D:thup:

Points to note....
It's not based on average but the best of the 3 cards submitted. Any score on an individual hole more than a double bogey is ignored so the "netted down scores" are used in the assessment. You only get your 3 cards and don't get the choice of say 3 out of 5 to put in.
As above, just get them in as soon as pactical, do your best and accept what you are given. You may find it a little different with the pressure of "a card in your hand" and a marker etc. Also, beware of doing this on a much shortened winter course. It can result in better scores and committees never take this into account as much as they should. Get handicapped far too low and it will spoil your first season as once the tees move back and the ball starts bounding on and rolling (not always down the middle!!) it's a whole new ball game.
