Well, I've finally done it! I've been a member at my club for a month and managed to get my 3 rounds with members (mates) and got my 3 cards in last week.

Received an e-mail from HDID today saying that my handicap has been updated...... I've been given 24.0 !

Quite chuffed as its my first ever handicap. As soon as I saw it I registered for the monthly medal next weekend and I'm nervous, but also looking forward to it.

Just need to work on my putting and all round short game, and after seeing ScienceBoy's putting yesturday at Hanbury Manor, I think I will be purchasing a V-Easy... Bobmac beware!

You better hurry I've only got 2 left

Well done Phil, 24 seems pretty fair to me based on what I saw at Hanbury, improve the consistency and that will come tumbling down no doubt.

One observation re the putting would be to make sure youre not decelerating on them, you did a few times yesterday, though I expect those greens were a fair bit faster than your norm.

Yeah, judging the speed and distance has always been a weak spot in my game... if I could get the ball closer on approach I could cut it out completely!! :D

Getting the handicap is the easy bit. It's about defending it (i.e. not going up) and then about beating it as often as you can. Enjoy the challenge and don't let nerves get the better of you in the first medal. Play to your limitations

Well done Philly.

Its easy enjoying the good rounds and the reductions, but as Homer says, its the defending of your handicap and not letting the bad rounds effect your enjoyment of the game that counts.

Good luck.

Congratulations, I have started the process, one card so far. I am hoping to get about 24 as well. First card suggests 27 but I know I can do better.
