Hi all first post on here and its a positive one, after watching the masters and after 2 lessons from my pro i decided to venture out onto the big boys course. Having never broken +36 (37 3 times ) i wasn't exactly expecting greatness. anyway cut a long story short i shot +22 (42 out, 50 in) and needless to say i was delighted.

Anyway with this new confidence i wondered if anyone has any tips on maintaining these scores/mindset/play as frankly next week it could be back to the same old uselessness. Drills, warm-up, routine, food?

Any help needed

With that sort of handicap id always say "Take your punishment " if you hit it in the tree's dont try and play the super saving shot that you will no doubt fail to pull off, get it back in play and most important - ENJOY IT!

Without trying to bring you down from such a great improvement, it is always harder when you put a handicap card in as we all seem to feel under some sort of pressure to perform. Stay relaxed, play each shot on its merits and if you get in trouble don't be a hero and get out by the shortest route possible. If you work on every hole being a par 5 (so par is then 90) what you lose on the longer holes and the bad ones you can get back on the short par 4's and the threes.

as one who is stuck on that handicap,

get the putting right - you can lose a lot of shots very quickly

similarly, the chipping - flying high looks dramatic, low runners are (or should be) more accurate

forget Hollywood - my bete noire - given the choice of safe or 'I know I can there' go safe
