I've only just recently received my handicap of 16 (which I think is low) and I'm planning on playing my first competition on Saturday.. last one of the year before the two courses get made to one for the winter season. You guys got any tips for a first competition?

Don't put too much pressure on yourself.
Play the "hit it, go find it, hit it again" way, one shot at a time, one hole at a time.
Enjoy it rather than getting annoyed if you make a double. Don't start thinking that you have to make a birdie of a couple of pars to make up for it, especially if it's Stableford.
Keep the ball in play! And don't try Seve-esque recovery shots. Get it back in play first and foremost.

Thanks mate. I've recently sold my driver as was just too inconsistent so use my 4 iron and can hit it straight and far enough for what I need so seeing my scores drop dramatically cause I'm not taking 3 off the tee! Yeah it's a stableford just gonna play steady away and not try to play too aggressive with it being my first competition!

Go out with no expectations, relax and enjoy it. Keep the ball in play and if you get in trouble take the shortest route out and don't compound the error. If you have to make a decision regarding a ruling, if you aren't sure what to do, don't touch the ball, check the rule book (which should already in the bag) and ask your partners. Go out have fun and go low

Have a warm up so you don't duff it off the first, if the first tee shot goes well it's a real settler and gives confidence. So think slow swing on the first as you'll be so pumped anyway you'll hit faster than you want.

Nice short par four he first hole so might use a 9iron off the tee haha.. cheers lads much appreciated I'm not bothered if I play well or not just wanna start playing in as many comps as I can from now
