My Apoligies in advance if this sounds very self indulgent.

After 2 years + of gradually becoming more and more disillusioned with the game, my handicap rising from 6 to 8 and being one bad round from 9 at long last it finally clicked. I have undertaken a block set of lessons and this morning when my normal Sunday fourball was setting off I was on the practice ground for my latest lesson. Having worked on bits and pieces and not seeing a huge difference on the course today following my lesson I found my love of golf again.

I caught up with the other three on the fourth tee and proceeded to play the remaining 15 holes in level par. Not only was I striking the ball far better and further but I was hitting my irons straight with a touch of draw and the pull hook was gone. By the time I stood on 12th hole I already had 2 birdies. 12th is a temporary Par 3 owing to course redevelopment of 150 yards sharply uphill and striking a 6 iron the ball looked to be going straight at the pin. Playing partners joked that it could be in but as the bottom of the pin wasn't visible I didn't think much of it. Then a couple of minutes later I am repairing a pitch mark 4ft short and think I have skipped through the back. I give a cursory look in the hole and the ball was sitting at the bottom of the cup is my ball. Do golf days get any better !

After firing one out of bounds at the next I finished with a birdie at the last to crown my best golfing days for years.

Sorry for going on but I have truly been down in the dumps for so long.

Fantastic news on the hole in one Algar. Well chuffed for you.

I think you may have passed your golfing woes onto me, six lost balls off the tee and a 6&4 pumping was handed out to me today.

Great stuff Alan, your to good a ball striker to be struggling mate, and congrats on the hole in one,top notch.

I'm struggling i emailed a pro about lessons and had no reply kind of sums it up to be honest my games that bad a pro won't even help, haha. I'm also considering taking a year out from playing altogether as i'm not enjoying shooting 20 pts every week, when i go to the range i hit it great when on the course i'm all over the place its soul destroying.

Well done. I felt I'd turned a corner a few weeks ago. Sadly it was straight into a brick wall. Still I've a lesson next week and looking for some sig of recovery from that

I'm the same, been hitting really well on the range and feeling really confident. But the past two rounds I've had I just can't seem to remember how to swing... not good.. I have got 3 lessons left to use so may book those in over the winter

Crawford,

I think You are just going through a bad spell and in no time will be back striking it as well as ever. My woes
lasted for years and not just a few weeks so stick in there.

Steve,

I was the same hitting it really well when I was with the Pro on the Range then out on the course I was
shocking. It really was doing my head in and the Pro thought I was making it up until we both played a few holes and true to form I was all over the place. So stick with it and You will be back playing well again. Even a walk around Scotscraig is a brilliant experience and can only inspire You to play better golf.

Well played fella and congrats on the hole in one. Really nice to hear such a positive good news story and I sincerely hope this is the first of many stellar rounds. Speaking of Stella... :D

Good to hear such a positive story. I went from 23 to 17 this year on a very tricky course then had a few lessons and totally lost it. For the last 8 rounds I cannot hit a cows arse with a banjo, and it makes no difference if I have further lessons or go to the range. It is soul destroying you are right. Trouble is I love golf and can't resisit going back for more punishment. Nice to hear that there might be light at the end of the tunnel. Well done mate.

Alan, remember to bring your wallet to Machrihanish buddy as there will be another 27 thirsty people ready to celebrate and toast your success.
