having not been to a chip shop for a long time it came as a shock last night when on our way back from visiting friends my wife decided we should have a chippy tea,so 2 portions of fish and chips and a small tub of peas ordered i waited in the Que when i got to the counter i handed a £10 note over expecting change, that will be £14-30 please,£14-30!!!!!! for what can only have been 2 spuds and the thinnest piece of fillet possible, this must be the biggest scam going a chippy tea used to be a cheap meal i could have gone to the local pub and got 2 meals for £8,felt properly ripped off.

Thats very expensive.
Funny you should post this, just 4 weeks ago me and the misses did the same.
Having not had fish and chips for over a year we decided to have some.
Absolutely lovely,for under a tenner.
Galmington, taunton, think its called the Trawlerman or Trawler.
Blatant plug and i dont have shares.

Fish and chips is somehow the most dis pointing take away ever. Always smells so good but never delivers on the taste. Also too many chips generally.

Fish is a con, you never get what you order either its usually a cheap white fish and not haddock.

We have the best chippie about, everything is freshly made, and at a reasonable price . Pizza supper, King rib supper, half pizza and chicken nugget supper all for about £11-£12 the reason it is fresh ? its the chip van and any time I have passed it it is chock a block.

If your looking for fish expect to pay top whack, it ain't cheap no more
if it had been the size of jaws brother i would not have maoaned BUT this looked like one decent fillet cut in half and the amount of chips looked like a child's portion,no wonder the owner has a bentley if this is what he charges in his other shops.

Best chippy up here does fish n chips and a large kebab with a tub of garlic sauce for £8.90

Split 3 ways and your full for ages as there is no such thing as portion control there

Well...we have the UKs number 1 chippy "Seniors" round the corner and its a total rip off lol

6Inch, you make a lot of posts about the wigan / St helens area. Try calling into Blackbrook chippy in St Helens, or North Road Chippoy, but sub £5 per meal and good portions very clean 5* Hygiene rating and very tasty.

They are the only 2 me and HID use.

this was a chipmunk chippy,i live in ST HELENS steve and i only have a joke with bluewolf because we all know we are far superior to those pie eaters.

When I read the thread title I thought the OP's garden shed had been damaged in a storm. :whoo:

Our local chippy's £5.20 for a fish supper. I don't mind paying it as it's very good and huge portions.

I honestly can't comment then, I'm a friend of the owners of the Chipmunk chip shops. Ha Ha

Me and the Mrs have tried pretty much all the local chippies, and now only use the 2 I mentioned. On the golf side of it, Eccleston Park does the best chips in town.

Best chippy I've ever been to is the Inglenook chippy in Ingleton, do giant portions and also have Giant Cod/ Haddock on the mene. Not cheap but nice and has a seating area inside. I think back in 2003 I used to pay £8.50 for Giant Haddock and Split (see who know what a split is)
