Favourite LP????

I've just ordered Pete Townsend and Ronnie Lane, Rough Mix, which is an LP I had thirty years ago. Wonder how bad it sounds now though?

Great album - though like you haven't listened to it for ages. You'll have to let me know how it sounds. Found myself listening to Rumours yesterday - such a good album. Not one weak track.

If I was to pick only one it would be Dark Side Of The Moon.

I'm juggling three - Bridge over Troubled Water, Dark Side of the Moon, Selling England By the Pound

Any the winner is ... Genesis - Selling England By the Pound (but I'll change my mind in 30 secs)

I have a vinyl collection that runs to some 3000+ but my favourite (and very special) is a 1978 original pressing of Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here that was gifted to me on the day I was born by my uncle who is no longer with us.

Wish you were here

Dark side of the Moon

Hawkwind- Masters of the Universe

Robin Trower- Bridge of sighs

Todd Rundgren- Todd (A dream goes on forever was played the night Elvis died in tribute)

Steve Hillage- Electric Gypsies

....so many more- good thread:thup:

Barely an album released after 1990 on this thread, forum's showing it's age... :)

Classic Albums:
The Beatles - Rubber Soul
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Prince - Purple Rain

Recent Albums:
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker

This thread is interesting reading. Your musical tastes speak volumes!

My favourite album by far is the Stone Roses by the Stone Roses. After that, probably the Delicate Sound of Thunder by Pink Floyd. Then into things like Air - Moon Safari, ACDC - Back In Black. I could go on. And on......

Blimey, this is so mood dependant!

My list would have to include......

Genesis Seconds Out, best ever live album
Floyd.....either Wish you were here or Dark side of the moon
Something heavy as well.....Rush or AC/DC
And some Dire Straits*

*The 2 best Straits albums are the first 2......FACT ;)

well I only picked one when this started but as others are picking several, I will add to Forever Changes.

Bluetone - Expecting to Fly
Emerson Lake and Palmer - Pictures at an Exhibition
Barenaked Ladies - Gordon
Liam Frost - Show me how the Spectres Dance

There are loads I could add.

3 from after 1990

PS I notice several mentions of Bridge over troubled water, I loved S&G but think that is one of their worst. Musical tastes are funny arent they?

Post 1990 in my top ten would be From Here to Infirmary by Alkaline Trio in 2001

I've read through the thread and I don't believe anyone has mentioned Dio as the group, someone did mention Sabbath and Heaven and Hell, but Holy Diver has to be a favourite, along with Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast, Bryan Adams - Reckless,

True enough but lots of other reasons as well....

The main one is that I don't think we tend to listen to an album as an entity nowadays - more just skip between tracks on our MP3 players. Back in the day when I got a new lp it'd go on the turntable and be listened to back to back for hours, days or weeks (depending on how good it was).

Other reason is, of course, that music was perfected in the early seventies!

A few more recent choices from me:

McLusky - McLusky Do Dallas
Ryan Adams - Gold
John Langford & his Sadies - Mayors of the Moon
PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea

None of these are particularly recent either... and none as good as my earlier choices!
