It wasn't the number of different shafts involved, it was the number of Fitters/sessions observed! Though good to see there were plenty of shafts considered at yours!

Yes, I have only ever had one fitting, and i can think of better things to do on a saturday afternoon than go to my local club fitters with my notebook and watch how many fittings they do with how many shaft options. Maybe i wrongly assumed that other people may have read your post in the same way and followed up with their experiences, thus giving a wider picture..

When I was fitted I tried three different makes and two different flexes on each make

When I have gone to demo days it has always been a minimum of 3 shaft makes

Ping was 4 different shaft makes

Every single time the fitter tested the effects of each shaft and the differences were always very noticeable in both feel and the visual shot
 
Go and see Jamie McCormack, Pure Forged Golf @ Newton Mearns range. He's independent and knows his stuff too.
 
This started out as a cracking question to gm, then followed by pages and pages of yes it will, no it won't :blah: guff.

Personally I think its a great idea, and formally put my name forward as one of the guinea pigs :)

If you've got a repeatable swing or not, the shaft is the engine. I can't understand some views that I've not got a repeatable swing so I may not benefit attitude! You don't know unless you try. The key would be whoever got fitted to give updates on how they are getting on with them and if it has made it easier for them.

Id agree that an independant fitter to an OEM would be best.
 
From what I have seen, many high handicaps tend to have a very repeatable swing. they have yet acquired the skills to move a swing path when they want and usually swing out to in. The tend to swing a few too many degrees left and hit slices. The thing is, they swing pretty much like this all the time.

The thing they suffer with is quality of strike. They miss the middle too much and hit all over the face.


As I have seen many pro's preach. strike is king. It should be sorted out before making changes to the swing or even in this case, equipment.
 
Something I haven't seen on this thread yet is that getting the right combination of flex and weight can increase clubhead speed as well.

Also, even though most of us don't think we swing the same from one day to the next as far as quality of strike goes, I bet we'd be surprised just how similar our tempo and the way we stress the shaft remain consistent through the years even with swing changes.
 
Been fitted at manufacturers centres, independent fitters and local ranges. The first offer a myriad of offers, the second to a similar degree and the third tend to use manufacturer fitting carts so a lesser degree. However in my experiences there are a certain range that most players fit into and once the fitter has found this range it is a process of trial and error

I had fittings with Mizuno & Titleist this summer - Mizuno came out best with the X100, whilst the KBS Xstiff was 2nd. With Titleist it was the other way round.

My transmission is fine! It's the engine that's falling apart!

Pistons, bearings, con rods and valves shot. Blows gasket occasionally! And a particularly dodgy exhaust system :rolleyes:. Drinks too much too! :rofl:
