Fantasy Footie 25/26

I used Free Hit, but it I wasn't doing that I probably would have TC Haaland. As it stands I'll have to use it when they're at home to West Ham near the end of this month.

Free Hit was huge and has pushed me back to within strking distance of top.

You're brave waiting to use TC, loads of games over Christmas and plenty of rotation....

Yep, I used FH and it got me a decent return.

I used TC on Haaland against Burnley earlier in the season. Thought it was a bust until he got a couple of goals in the final 10 mins.

It's a difficult one to go for, I think. For a while I forgot that City already played Wolves on day one. Week 6 against Burnley would've been the one, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. It's one that can always go wrong whenever you use it (as people have seen in week 13). I could potentially use it with Arsenal v Wolves in week 16, on one of their defenders, since the chance of them conceding to Wolves is basically nil - and I've had double Arsenal defence for a long time, so I could do Cap + Vice both on them as a back-up if one of them is rested. 😄

I think Haaland got 2 goals in injury time, I remember jumping up in a quiet country pub as I thought it had been a wasted chip

Gyk could be good for TC against Wolves as he'll get plenty of minutes after his injury.

He won't be in my team though. 😄 He wasn't good enough for his value before his injury so not expecting that to change. I've got two defenders and Rice at the moment, and the next Arsenal player I'd consider would be Raya rather than a forward.

Remember that you get extra chips this season. I think you need to use them by end of the year.
Also everyone will get 5 transfers for the afcon... So no point in storing up any freebies...

Just typical...... Haaland racking up a big points total tonight...🤣 .

I did laugh at that. On paper Leeds at home was the right game to use it and City did get 3 goals so it was just freak bad luck. I made a last minute change of captain from Saka to Haaland so felt a bit pleased when I saw Haaland hauling last night :sneaky:

Anyone else feel they've gone over the top with the double chips and also the 5 transfers for AFCON? I also thought the manager chip last season was a really good addition and made you really think when to use it. Just doubling chips has made it a lot easier.

I didn't even know about this - when do you get the 5 then? Just on the one gameweek when Afcon starts? Which week is that? I normally use a wildcard in January but looks like I won't have to now.

I think doubling up the chips has made me think hard about when to use them. In previous years I would use the chips as follows:
Triple Captain - on a double gameweek near the end of the season
Free Hit - on a week where a few of the teams aren't playing due to being in the latter stages of the FA Cup
Bench boost - I would never really know when to use this and end up using it at the very last week of the season to try and pip my mates to a position at the end

Now with the extra versions of each I've had to plan ahead and really think about when to use them. Everyone has had to carefully select a game to use triple captain on because there aren't any double weeks in the first half of the season. Same with free hit, you've had to select when to use it as there aren't any weeks with teams not playing. So I quite like it, it's been an extra strategical element.

The second versions though will be used the same as before, most likely, as I'll be expecting a double gameweek and a week where teams aren't playing, as usual.

I need to get Igor Thiago in but I'm really on the fence about whether to remove Joao Pedro or Mateta. Tough decision. Both have similar fixtures coming. I think Mateta is in slightly better form.

I think the 5 AFCON transfers is massively OTT and has simply been put in to appease casual players. Whilst I don't put myself in the bracket of an FPL expert I do plan things and AFCON should be part of that planning. If you end up with 6 AFCON players and don't realise it until it's too late than that's hard luck and part of the game.

Don't hold me to it but I think we get them in GW15 so make sure you use any other free transfers you have beforehand as they aren't added to the 5 that we're given.

Week 15 is this Saturday so it can't be that? Afcon starts on 21st December according to Google. So that would be week 17? Ok let's actually look it up, haha.

So they just top you up to 5 transfers in week 16 really. That's good news, my team is clinging on at the moment and there's a few changes I'd like to make! And I only have two African players in Semenyo and Ndiaye. Oh wait - Ghana didn't qualify, how the heck did that happen? They used to be one of the better sides? In that case I only have Ndiaye to replace.
