Birdieman your attitude on their attire reminds me of all that is wrong with many many golf clubs out there and there longing to keep this elitist stiff upper lip attitude that should be banished to the 60's/70's/80's era and kept there.
I myself had to come through this although granted not as bad in the late 80's early 90's when as a junior we were expected to wear 'slacks and pringles' and a jacket and tie after playing a frigging junior league match but thankfully after realising that our junior section had gone from a core of 10 of which half were single figure hcpers aged 14 to 18 to virtually non existant 4 to 7 years later a more relaxed dress code was brought in at the club and now 10 years on I don't think it is a coincedence that our junior section is the envy of many and we have currently 2 of the regions brightest prospects along with a huge amount of other kids loving taking part in this great game of ours.
To me smart but casual is more than enough to be seen in before during and after a round.
