Eye Dominance?

Afternoon good people,

I've been reading a bit of bumf on eye dominance and putter selection on Butch Harmon's website and wondered if anyone has ever taken this eye dominance in to account when selecting a putter? Having been through dozens of putters and still looking for the 'one', I'm open to anything.

Having done the test and checked my eye dominance, it suggests a zero offset putter may be more suited to me.

Any thoughts? An interesting read nonetheless...

I'm right handed and left eye dominant and after a quick look at the article I wonder if that was why I couldn't get on with a centre shafted Odyssey which had no offset. Always looked to me as though the shaft was in the way.

I'm also left eye dominant.

Centre shafted putters work best for me, but that's more the SBST action.

I did have several BB43s for a while and one of them was an offset one. Never really got on with it (but made a profit when I sold it)

I think eye dominance is a consideration, but not the most important one. Balance/feel (which can't be measured/calculated except by the player) seems the most important thing to me - and that generates confidence. Mind you, if I sunk every 7-footer with an oddly balanced, long blade, that would be the one I'd choose!

I didn't realise that I was eye dominant until I had a lesson with my local pro to sort out my iron play and resolve the issue I had of pushing my irons right.

Lined up on the mats I was striking my 7 iron well but the ball was landing 10yds right of target. He took a look and asked what the problem was.

"The balls landing 10yds right of where I'm aiming"

"No it's not, it's going bang on line, exactly where you're aiming."

He told me to put my club down by my feet and then step back to where he was and note the tree where the club was pointing to. I went back to my set up position looked along the target line and the tree was 10 yds to my right, well it was from where I was standing.

"You've go a dominant eye which is causing a parallax error," he told me.

"So how do I fix it?"

"Easy."

At that he tells me to tee up several feet behind a divot using the divot to give a target line so when I stood behind the ball and looked down the target line the divot was 2-3ft in front of the ball giving a straight line to the target.

"Now set yourself up parallel to the target line between the ball and divot and then hit the ball"

They all went straight where I was aiming them and that's when I found out about dominant eye, however it doesn't seem to affect my putting for some reason.

If I hadn't gone to the pro it would have took me forever to work it out, so simple and so easy to fix

Went to an Odyssey demo day yesterday and they have a nifty device similar to a standard putting mirror and you line up over the ball and there are a number of lines on it and these indicate your dominance depending on which ones you see over the ball. Reiterated I am right eye dominant. Apparently this can also influence which type of putter may suit although I did kind of switch off by this point and wanted to dive into the array on offer

I'm massively right eye dominant, I struggle to read a newspaper headline with my left eye (the eye itself is perfect, the optic nerve is knackered) but it's rare that I play with someone who is better at putting. Because of my sight I play golf 99% by feel (and a spotter) so a left handed putter just feels completely wrong and sends me to pieces. I didn't read the rest of the article after 'stop now if you're happy' as my putting (and short game) are the only bits of my game that I am 100% happy about and don't want to ruin whatever it is I am doing right. :)

Drive for show, put for dough, trust me you can only get so many bad shots back on the green.
