Hi all.
I played in a winter league doubles match this afternoon.
The format was Doubles / 4BBB / Matchplay / Threequarter Handicap

We played ok against a very good Father & Son pairing.
We ended up losing on the 16th by 4 holes.
They said that they had won by 4 & 3, it's this bit that I don't understand.

I had a look at the results sheet afterwards & they were other results like 3 & 2.

Can someone explain please how this result is calculated.
Sorry for the numpty question, I haven't been playing that long & am still getting to grips with some of these things.
Thank you.

They were four holes up with only three to play so can't be caught. You can win from 1 up (won the last hole) to winning 10&8 (after the 10th).

So, they were 3 up going to the 16th.
We had to win the last 3 holes to halve the match, but we lost the 16th, so they were then 4 up with 2 holes to play?

you lost 4 & 2, yes 4 holes down with only 3 to ply so the best you could have done was win the last 3 holes to end 1 down. Once you cant win or tie the game is over.

No, we were 3 holes down with 3 to play, so the best we could have done was win the last 3 holes to halve the match.
We then lost the 16th, so we were then 4 holes down with 2 holes to play. Game over.
I understand now, thanks everyone.
