I have used one. It is certainly quite interesting and if used enough will do wonders for your swing plane but what I found was that it should be more suited to the individual rather than creating a generic swing that might not work for everyone (that's not to say it didn't work for me though- I just felt that some might not like it). Overall they are pretty useful though. You certainly won't get any instant results from using one although they are excellent for providing a sense of feel that a complete novice can then copy although I doubt you fall into this category so you would have to work with one for a while. I know people who have been raised though their golfing life using one and they do have pretty spot on swings- but I don't understand how this is the case yet they are not great players. Why do you ask- have you not used one before and are therefore thinking of trying one out?

Hi,

I used one of these for 2 lessons running and found it really helped with my swing and getting the proper feel for the correct position. After each use , I then went on the range and was hitting everything very well.
The only thing I would say is that it is something you need to use everytime you feel as though you have no idea how to swing and need a quick reminder.

Hopefully I am on about the right bit of gear, (it is like a circle you stand in.)

As I said it helped me , but may not help everyone.

This is a great invention. Used correctly it must be one of the quickest ways to develop a great plane and "feel" the shape of a good swing.
However, an occasional go can be disastrous to your game.....I know plenty of players that swing it well but not the one plane explanar way; if they use it, it can mess up everything.
I love the idea and would happily buy one......could be a painful process.

Was thinking on the lines of buying one to
(i) keep me swinging when unable to make it onto the course through winter months when daylight hours after work are non existent.
(ii) help with flexibility as I tend to shorten the follow through unless i'm really relaxed
(iii) keep me fit instead of going to the gym, which I find absolutely mind numbing.

I know they're quite expensive but only 2 yrs gym membership and I haven't been since March.

Tried it and found that it does focus the mind and body on the correct swing path. However it is something that needs regular use as I found that between hitting practice balls and playing when I went back to the Explainar my path was far more upright even though I thought I was still swinging correctly

I got to meet the inventor Luther Blacklock last year when I organised a golf day and arranged for him to speak. Great guy and explained(!) the theory of the Explanor very well. So well in fact that my brother bought one...

I've got to say it has really improved his game. He has played for years but with a out-to-in swipe causing pulls and weak slices. After owning this for since September last year he now has now changed his swing to a far straighter swing path and has a lovely soft draw to his longer clubs.

As people say, it worked for him but may not for others. He has used it regularly throughout the winter though!

£600 or the price of a decent set of irons or a couple of years gym M'ship or 30 lessons with a pro or about a gallon of diesel in a month's time

This is exactly the problem with the explanar. If you consider the plane of your downswing, on a good swing, you will notice that the butt end of the club points directly at the ball as the club drops onto plane. BUT, if you swing it back like this (as I did) any pro will most likely say you are swinging very flat. Most methods (especially Leadbetter) like to see a marginally upright plane on the backswing and then re-route the club "into the slot" on the downswing. I spent 2 months setting the club inside the ball at 9 o'clock (where the butt end points) and every lesson he wants it more upright still. Explanar encourages a one plane swing....which is great....to an extent.

I'll try to find some photos to show the two plane method my pro is looking for.

OK....perfect....I've found a great photo

Variousswingplanes.jpg

Jay, Jim, Bubba, Lee would all struggle to get even close to an explanar plane swing.

The closest is probably Vijay.....but you can also see why Lorena and Natalie hit it so consistently..........

Presumably you can set the angle of the explanar (well, I know you can!)

See....it's possible to play well with an upright set and a flat downswing.

PS....I was setting it like Vijay....my pro wants more Michael. Either way....it all means nothing unless I can find a consistent angle on the way down.

I'm sure that I could live with a swing like Vj's :p

I was interested in using something that will keep me consistent when i'm not playing as much when the nights draw in. Also for fitness and flexibility.

I sure know from the pics who i'd like to play around with
