Following on from Bob's thread about diet got me to thinking about an exercise challenge. Last year I followed the One Hundred Push Ups programme as I hate resistance work but know it is good for me and should do more of it. I do, however, respond well to a challenge and structured programme and for upper body/core strength a push up is pretty good. Perhaps some bicep work alongside but that aside it is a good compound exercise for sure.

Couch-to-5K is another good one, but obviously running can have negative impact on your joints.

I prefer to swim until my arms feel like they're going to drop off :D

I don't like exercise for the sake of it. Gym, running etc. No good for me as you can't beat anyone and there is little skill.

That's why I play squash. 1600 calories burned an hour at my level and you are playing the best game in the world! I play 4 times a week and am in good nick as a result.

Cycling is awesome. Non-load bearing, you can go as fast or as slow as you like, you can travel 50 miles in a session, see great countryside, get to obsess over a nice bike and it will put you in great shape.

Only downside for me was the dangerous drivers and road rage.

Might have to dust off the wife's Davina fitness dvd. It's chucking with rain again and I'm getting fed up staring down at my christmas pud-enhanced gut. It's a good workout but there are a few co-ordinated moves and I don't do co-ordination. Oh well, here goes....

Must take the clothes off our exercise bike and get started again. If I can do 20 minutes three times a week I would be happy. That along with my stretching I do twice a day and walking around the course carrying my clubs should get me a bit fitter and lose a little as well.

The stretches were necessary because I went for physio with a sore hip, it always appeared after golfing of course. After their work it deteriorated into a sore back which i never had before !!!!!

ok, all ears.

Mine tended to come on after a couple of hours after golfing, although I felt if I stretched sideways and forwards during the round it helped ease it a little. I did get some strange looks though. Always try and strecth before I start.

Sorry AMC, the posting was meant as something of a joke as many of the regulars here know that I am 3 weeks into recovery after my second hip replacement.

It did start with the feeling of a pulled back muscle and after several pointless osteopath visits then to a back consultant, that a MRI scan showed arthritus in both hips. Dont put off seeing a consultant if it persists would be my sensible tip!

Good luck

Chris

Ok Chris, no probs, to be honest my hip has been getting better but will not hesitate to go again if my back fails to improve.

I didn't get the satire as I hadn't been too observant on your other posts :(

How is the recuperation going ?

i've started running again,at the moment i'm doing 2 miles everyday but soon i'll increase that to 3 miles and take it from there.

during 2010 and the early part of 2011 i was running a minimum of 5k 5 days per week and doing a lot of 10k runs,my times were not too shabby for someone who is not that great at long distance running.back in late 09 and early 2010 i was doing lots of boxing training and this was really good,i never took to the running until i stopped the boxing.

i might try some of that high intensity training.....

Can't disagree with that. I really miss playing Squash.

me too, with my competitive nature I think it would kill me for sure now.

I once played a team singlehandedly one after the other, one of these days when your on fire and have boundless energy, their 'star' player refused to shake hands at the end as I'd boasted him off the court (as I'd heard he hated boasts)

ahhh those were the days......"I couldv'e been a contender, I couldve been somebody" :mmm:

Going well thanks. 3 weeks in and I have been to the range and gently hit balls, downside is that I cant walk without a stick at the moment but working hard on it especially as I'm back at work and theres quite a bit of pee taking going on!!
