Eurovision Song Contest

Dissagree..Fun yes ..Good laugh..hmmm..try telling that to Mollie and some of the others who taking singing seriously..It is now a farce, not a laugh..Political, Sexual, and really it is garbage..It is fake.

I guess the easiest thing to suggest is .... Don't watch it

Why do you honestly think Mollie (the UK entry for those who don't follow it all) had a snowballs chance in hell of winning? Aprt from the fact it was a shockingly bad song, like our previous five years efforts. Europe actully hates us and this is how they can show it!!!
I've got a solution to it all. We should enter a song that uses the Millwall chat "No one like us everybody hates us, We are the UK, Super super UK, Unless you come here, to take our benefits and stay !"

Feel free to add to this, and we could send it in to the BEEB for entry next year !

Looks like Jesus in drag

You know what Jesus looked like then Phil :) Though to be fair most pictures of Christ do show him as a bearded guy with long hair and wearing flowing robe-like apparel.

Watched a bit of it just for a laugh and it's a load of nonsense - and I didn't actually find it funny. Usual debate will now ensue as to whether it is appropriate in today's days of austerity for the BBC to be a major funder of a gay mega-party - as that's all it really is.

Even the wife preferred watching the Players instead of Eurovision. A nasty shambles of a programme wrong on so many levels and perhaps with the winner we've reached a low not seen since Israel won

Personally, I can't stand Eurovision but I know many people who love it. Gay and straight. I also know many gay and straight people who hate it. Undoubtedly there are a lot of gay performers but still outnumbered by straights I think.

Basically, I don't like it being characterised and dismissed as a "gayfest" or whatever.

Homer, I find your comment disturbing. What little I did hear of the winning song he certainly does appear to be a decent singer so not sure why you think it a new low. But, then again, I get what you mean by the Israel connection and it casts you in a poor light. I did watch it the year Dana international won and she did so deservedly! Live and let live, mr Simpson, and keep your homophobia off the forum, please.

If that's because the winner was transgender then (although I acknowledge everyones right to an opinion) I think that comment is pretty crass in all honesty.

Edit: Pretty sure the winner is an 'act' like Cupid Stunt or Dame Edna.

Problem is that it has become a de facto gayfest - which can be enjoyed I am sure whether gay or no. But I found the winner a little uncomfortable. And as far as Homer's low - I can see where he is coming from as the winner couldn't be further from Brotherhood of Fizz if she tried. So she was certainly a new 'extreme'.

And what with all the OTT 'oh thank you thank you' emoting - nah - tripe.

Personally I would like to live in a totally tolerant world and hence I think eurovision is a valid tv as say golf, which probably has a generally intolerant view of other people, as we so often demonstrate to each other here.

Ps, that's not directed at anyone; my worldly tolerance goes pretty much towards allowing people free thought on most things

I must admit I do have a bit of an ironic laugh at us / we golfers debating what constitutes taste/style/fashion/music etc :)

Still, makes a good debate and what would a forum be without one.

Not sure how anyone could call the Polish entry a "gayfest". The young lady with the churning equipment certainly appeared to be "Polish"ing something ...

My post wasn't a direct push at transgender or gay and apologies if that's how it came over. My gripe is the fact that all these acts need a gimmick or angle these days rather than rely on the pure quality of the song. My argument is how many votes were cast for the winner and Dana International on the basis of their gimmick and not the performance alone.

It's always been a dire program but has got so much worse. It really should be renamed the Eurovision Suckup Contest.
I never understood why Russia and Israel are in it at all!

The Eurovision Song Contest is now the same as Golf Monthly holding an event at Wentworth for all the forum members and no matter who scores the most points, the winner will be the person whose trousers are voted the best by the other players.

it's a joke - if people want to waste three hours of their life watching it let them. I'm not.

Great idea , I'm in, will you email Mike :) :)

As opposed the rest of the pop and music industry that is so 'for real'?

Eurovision is just a massive geopolitical talent show. It's not a lot to do with the music but is more about the show, no real difference to X Factor or the rest of the talent shows we get and it's not to be taken seriously as any kind of barometer of musical competence.

The late great John Peel used to love going to it, and if it's good enough for him then its good enough for me.

Me too, look at the music threads on this board and the way the average golfer dresses and it becomes clear the 2 things golfers should really not offer any comment on are good style/fashion and good music ;)

I watched it with the GF whilst partaking in a few sherbets and enjoyed it. Its not something I would watch if at home but it was light entertainment.

I enjoyed a couple of the songs to be fair. I might put a few bets on next year as I predicted about 50% of the 12 point votes based purely on geographical location :D

Stop referring to the winner as 'she' though plz, its a bloke in a dress end of!

Lets face it, its's always been poor!

amusing maybe, due to just how bad it is. The great TW used to spend the night taking the Pee out of it and now GN does the same.

But no worse that BGT or the other crap of this type the blocks up Sat night viewing.

If you don't like it don't watch, i don't, though it sound like i shoulh have enjoyed the Polish entry;)
