European Tour all time money list

Peter Baker in the top 100 albeit near the bottom was a case in point. I do think the modern purse makes it easy (easier) for even run of the mill tour pros to earn a multi million pound career.

If you reckon it takes about €250-300k to keep your card each year, a player ending mid-table is raking in about 500k a year or more. Doesn't take long to rack up a small fortune..

Good point Imurg.....When I see the name Bradley Dredge appear on leaderboards I think of the guy as a journeyman pro who must have made a few quid but 7.5 million

In 1979, Sandy Lyle won the Order of Merit with £49,000 odd. This year Rory won with £5.5 million, more than 100 times (ignoring inflation) Lyle's winning haul.

It would be interesting but still not fully informative if the past winners hauls were converted into todays value. I reckon Lyle's money would still only be worth about a quarter of a million or so, so there has been huge real growth in the number and value of events since then. Rory also gets to count the US majors and WGC events which Lyle didn't or they didn't exist.

Points of interest for me...

Poulter is so high up
Monty won so much more than Faldo
No Seve? I know he's not around but wouldn't he still be on the list (maybe I missed him?)

Monty and Poulter have been succesfull with their careers in the big money era and The European tour website states that Seve's career earnings are just over 5 million, not sure why he's not on the all time list thou....

Looking at it I'd say that once you are no longer with us you don't appear on the list.
All the top 100 are currently in the Land of the Living - quite why, when you Rest in Peace, you are removed from the list is strange...

Was gonna put pretty much the same thing, that list is meaningless as an "all time" list

Doesn't certain placings on the all time money list give certain exemptions into tournaments?

Yes thats correct total money earned goes a long way on tour, even if you fail at q school you'll get invites to certain tournaments. When I caddied on the European Seniors tour there were guys there who got into Seniors tournaments because of the money they earned on the reg tour previously, some of them their games had long left them but they still got invites.
