Euro football thread

I truely, and honestly have given up on England football.

Different managers, same old disapointment.

When will the FA learn that 11 individuals do not make a team

On a brighter note. I still fancy the dutch to win the tournament.
Holland were my tip but i think they have made life very hard for themselves by losing that first game. beating both germany & Portugal in 5 days is tough no matter how good you are.

Really not sure how England will go. Have a feeling it might be a bit better than people are expecting. But we certainly aren't winners in waiting.

I'm just about the most optimistic person you'll meet, so although I know in my heart of hearts that it will be the same old terrible stuff, there's a small part of me which thinks a miracle *might* happen. Pathetic, I know.

Nothing pathetic about it Az', just patrioitic.

I on the other hand am a realist

same as you Aztecs, as a Liverpool fan supporting England is almost the same result - disappointment :D

A small part of me always lives in hope though :whoo:

We will play a 4-4-2 with a defensive midfielder, and Gerrard playing just in front of the back 4 with Downing and Milner as the 'wide' players. With Young behind probably Carroll up front ( I'd go with welbeck, but hey, that's just me).

They will set up as two banks of four, with Milner and Downing taking a defensive position pretty much level with the edge of the box.

We'll allow the French plenty of possession, and will always show them down the flanks, rather than give then the chance to cut inside.

We will then rely on Terry and Lescott's ability in the air to cut out the crosses.

When in possession we will play calmly across the back 4 and give Gerrard plenty of simple touches which he will then play first time straight back to the defender who played it to him. when the ball reaches Johnson at RB he will then play a hopeful punt to Carroll.

Our midfield wont back up the play because they wont want to get caught out of position, so Carroll and Young will quickly lose the ball, and it'll start all over again.

It will be DULL!!

But I'm still planning on finishing off my last appointment in plenty of time..........

You just never know, do you?

I thought we might get a draw, jeez we gave away some bad goals , jelavic finished well but he was offside from the origional shot , before it eventualy got to him . hard to see how we didnt get that pen , i supose there is soooo much diving going on its hard for the 3 officials surrounding the incident to see it ..

On a side note tho i sat down to watch Spain V Italy in hopes of a good game , i got up half way through , i just said football is gone crap , too much diving & play acting to enjoy it , Spain are suffering from Barcalonaitis, trying to walk the ball into the net, hopefuly itl get exciting after the group stages ..

Good luck to england tonight

Which isn't possible without Messi.

Yep 100% bang on .. You know it, I know it . someone just needs to tell the spaniards....

Meanwhile the said Messi is bagging 3 for the Argies .. he must nearly be the best footballer ever now ha ..

There are people who still think Messi isn't "all that". I really wonder what they must be watching!

He was from the initial shot, then there was the deflection off the first Irish player. However, once the second Irish player attempted a pass (horrendous effort), it was a different phase of play and it was a "played pass" from the defender so Jelavic wasn't offside IMHO.

You have to remember calling him the best ever is a big shout.

There's the likes of Pele, Maradonna, Cruyff, Puskás, Beckenbauer, Eusebio, Di Stéfano et'al' all spoken of in the same breath.

I think greatest player in recent generations for sure, 100%. Greatest EVER.... I'm not so sure.

Good to see the FA have total faith in the England team as they have BOOKED the flight home for the team on June 20th the day after our last group match.

Anyone agree that Johnathan Pearce and Mark Lawrenson are the most horrific team of commentators within this tournament?

Again they highlight the fact that Sky do sport so much better....what a couple of fuds,Lawrenson is utter gash at best.

Hadn't noticed anything too bad but I'll admit I'm not Lawro's biggest fan.

Decent game though!

Pearce has just informed us that in the Ukraine they have open spaces and even the odd park!

Really? Here was me thinking it would just be pre fabs, high rises and the like.:mmm:

They are both drivellers of the highest order.

Pretty sure most FAs would have plans in place for the return journey the day after each stage of the tournament. It's called being prepared. They'd look pretty silly getting knocked out and having no way home. No big deal.
