Anyone played the course at Esporta in Milngavie? Looking for some opinions on the course, facilities etc.

Having just moved home I'm looking for a new course for next season - they are currently offering golf only membership at £50 per month which could be pretty good value depending on the obvious factors.

great layout but tighter than a ducks *** and usually a mud heap :(

I havent played it for years due to these facts but maybe its improved, get a free practice round first

was speaking to a member last weekend, and although the course is very tight, the course has improved drainage wise over the past 12 months..

If you want a course that you can play all year round for about £50 a month then join me at at www.volgc.org

if you want a game to see what its like then send me a message

Thanks for the advice guys. Committed to my current club until the end of March so plenty of time to look around and hopefully make the right decision.

It's a pity that the two clubs literally on my doorstep are way out of my league price wise. I can see the fairway and 1st green of the earl of mar from my kitchen window which is frustrating.

Also considering the Gleddoch as its only 10 minutes away

It was entertaining but murderous years ago when it was known as Dougalston. Not quite so hard now but not a course you would want to play regularly.

Balmore is a decent track and worth a try. My club (Cawder) is 15 mins east of Esporta but has two courses and is another one to try before you sign up.

Try living within 10-15 minutes of...

Wentworth
The Berkshire
Sunningdale
Queenwood
Swinley Forest
Bearwood Lakes
Woking
West Hill
Worplesdon

I could probably go on...life sucks as a golfer with moderate income doesn't it :D

sucks is probably a bit strong but it certainly limits the options :D

I think Esporta has improved no end. Some fantastic holes, love the 1st, 4,5, are good holes and there are some other great holes. Drainsge wise it has also improved no end however i'm not sure how itbruns as a golf club, ie for medals etc. A mate of mine from work has just joined. Their is also some fantastic wildlife in short skirts on the tennis courts during the summer months and also lycra clad heading to the gym.

Balmore is nice and Buchanan Castle has improved drastically, it also has a superb little driving range as well.

Nice track Steve but real tight, always felt they paid more attention to the tennis side though, you've got Erskine on your doorstep and Clydebank & district, Windyhill, clober, all just across the bridge. Had enough of Kilbirnie or just too far away?

I like kilbirnie but it's now almost a 40 mile round trip, not really handy for a quick 9. Erskine's prices are prohibitive TBH, the joining fee alone is around £1500. ditto for the earl of mar.

I'll visit a few courses and weigh up the factors ie cost, distance, how busy it gets and a low snob percentage :o

Clydebank is a nice enough track but nothing special IMO and the locker room is straight from the 1950's

Your always welcome for a knock at Old Ran, only 15 minutes maybe 20 max on the back road from Erskine to Houston.

Many thanks for the advice/ invites guys, lot of courses I need to check out over the next few months before making a decision.
