Just watched England v Scotland 1977 on this channel.

What strikes me most is the fact that out of a 98000 crowd there is no more than 5000 English in the crowd!! How did ticketing work then?

Ally McLeod looks mair like a game show host than a football manager!!!!

My auld man was down at it and he fondly remembers the place being like a home match and indeed the same 2 years later.....and no he didn't get a bit of the pitch or the crossbar before anyone asks.

How the game has changed eh? I mean we had a good team then! ;)

Great to watch,I love Scotland away games and I am still half thinking of going to see us in October v Spain but don't know if I can a)justify the cost and b)justify the humiliation that will no doubt come!! :D

I watched this last week, It was 3 years before i was born but what an atmosphere- couldn't believe the Scottish support in the stand. It also finally explained me why we hate Jimmy Hill. Some less than flattering remarks directed towards the Scots eh!

I can think of a few folk that'd pay good money to boot that chin aff 'es heid :D

That was, the biggest thing for me. It was like a different game, with tackles flying in, the game not being stopped every 10 seconds and NO DIVING!

Highly enjoyable compared to the modern toss we have to endure

I love the story of the dozen Scots passing a stationary delivery van and they had the cheek to bribe the driver to take them to the match.

He succumbed to temptation but explained he had to close the doors in case he was spotted carrying passengers.

10 mins later the real driver turned up wondered at the singing coming from within his van, he opened the doors to be asked ... are we at the game yet!

The van had never moved, the 'driver' was a passing fly Londoner, who by that time, would be drinking his spoils.

All this adds to the spirit of that day.

Hi
Read your post I was at this game was only 17 weekend away in london what a weekend great memories but as far as tickets go,a full coach load of us went down and only me and my mate had tickets we got them thru the amateur football at that time all affiliated clubs were entitled to x amount tickets not sure how it worked but our club had 2 and we drew lots for them, but everyone on the coach was in the ground to see the game at that time the english supporters were waiting outside the ground to sell their tickets to whoever would buy them 2 or 3 times the face value think they just saw game as opportunity to make some easy money then went and watched it in pub lol
