English teams play 4 4 2.

Anything else will be a disaster, as they are too thick to adapt.

4-1-3-2 is 442 but spoken in posh lingo.

And basically

4-1-3-1-1 is still mainly 442 but with Gerrard playing in a funny place

I'm scottish but would like to comment if that's ok? ;)

I seriously can't believe that Carragher has been asked back into the team! I even more seriously can't believe that Capello tried to talk Scholes out of retirement to return for the world cup... what kind of message does that put out to the other players who eventually do get picked?

The england team looked very comfortable through the majority of qualifying, but then all of a sudden it seems your manager isn't so confident to progress in the actual finals with what has been available!

You can also be sure that you're not going to be playing much attack minded football, but hoping to get goals on the break, or play it up to a holding player and hope to get something out of a lot of midfield possession. There's too many midfielders in that squad to suggest anything other than that!

It could also just mean that he knows what forwards he's taking with him, but not so sure about the midfield yet? I think it's all going to be a question of wether he is brave enough or not to leave a regular like Carrick at home or take someone like Huddlestone (who i think has had a great season by the way) in his place.

I think the Scholes & Carragher thing has been overplayed I expect they are players he wanted to take as cover, there is nothing like bringing on a player who has been there and done it when you need to. I certainly wouldn't second guess Capello he is one of the very best managers in world football.

There have been some stranger decisions by other managers Cambiasso has been left out of Argentina and Nasri has been left out of the french squad, crazy decisions both of them
