I think Heskey gets in because he is one of the few english centre forwards that can hold the ball up, I dont really rate him but it is something he has over the others, I would have liked to see Campbell in there he has been a rock for Arsenal and still has it not sure about King a great defender but can stay fit long enough.

Still its not the final squad yet, do the 23 have to come from this 30

Take away Rooney and Gerrard and Ashley Cole and you don't have much I don't think.

Can't win WC on that squad, the forward line is very weak.

4 more years of hurt lads, sorry. ;) :p

The 23 doesnt Have to come from the 30, but they'll be no-one picked from outside it now.

In reality i think were short of quality, especially in any depth. We are not too bad with Terry, Ferdinand, Cole at the back. G Johnson isnt very good defensively and may get found out against teams who can keep the ball. Joe Cole might get back in making a 4 with Gerrard, Lampard and Barry. Though, its a real shame that Hargreaves is out because he is our best defensive midfielder. By a long way too, he'll be sorely missed. Up front, the only goal threat we'll have is Rooney. Think he'll play Heskey and he'll not get many goals, if any at all.

Barr that lot, we have Crouch who has proved he can do a job, Milner looks quite exciting and we have King who can fill in without any worries about his ability (cant say the same about his fitness). Defoe is a bit of a poacher and can get goals, and A Johnson may be a bit of a dark Horse. Walcott will go as he can play wide or up front.

Not a lot of depth at all, and its dissapointing already.

We've a lot there that are not up to it (either at all, not yet, or past it): Warnock, Carragher, Baines, Upson, Huddlestone, Parker, Wright-Philips, Carrick and Bent.

Not to mention the likely starting place for David 'accident waiting to happen' James!!

In saying all of that, we've hardly lost a game in 90 minutes in tournaments for ages, usually get a player sent off when we do get beat and often even then only on pens.

Suppose were 1 of 7 or 8 that potentially can win it.

The World Cup, why do you even bother with it?

The trophy might as well be made out of plastic, for all the chance they have of winning.

The players are either has beens like Heskey, or prima donnas like Cashley.

The players are so crap they can't even score a penalty, so they score with each other's WAGs instead.

They have to make sure they never make the last four of any international tournament because they can't afford the damage the fans cause when they're inevitably knocked out.

When will they decide to give up for good, and settle down in front of a nice window and watch the raindrops racing each other down the glass - it's more exciting than anything they'll see on a football pitch.

Why pick carragher when he retired himself from international football?. Why pick 3 left backs? Why pick Barry when he is in a foot brace?, why pick an untried keeper? (although I DO rate him highly) Why pick a striker that can't score?
Why pick 3 wide men for the right side when they are all alike?.
Why pick King when he can't play twice in a week and can't train?
Can't understand why he didn't pick Jagielka when he can play in a few positions and offers the chance to give him more options elsewhere.

I do NOT like the balance of the squad and fear it will all blow up in his face.

I think he is taking too many chances with unreliable players

Zamora didn't get in because he's injured and playing (allegedly)tomorrow which is a shame as he deserves a crack after this season but he'd never have made the 23. It doesn't look the greatest squad on paper but its way too early to be hitting the panic button and moaning about it

Heard someone on the radio saying Hargreaves should be in.

What? The guy's played 90 seconds of first team footy in 18 months! I don't think Rooney would get picked in that situation.

On tonights performance I reckon DJ Campbell could get a look in.

A lot of old players have been given the nod. I'm sorry, but I think Ashley Cole is one of the most vastly overated players in the premiership. I'm sure Capello could have found a more eager, less "up his own arse" player in the championship.

Did someone mention Heskey?... oh sh*t! :(

The theory is that he's never let Capello down.

And in all the recent 'great' England performance's, he's been in the team.

His league form is irrelevant, coz he's the only centre forward in the world that noone is expectin to score.

We'll have to wait and see if the theory works.

The good news is ;

A) Rooney has been playing fine on his own
B) Defoe is ok
C) Crouch scores plenty
D) We've got plenty of goals in the rest of the team.

So if Heskey doesn't work, we've actually got a plan B) and even a plan C) up our sleeve for once.

I just wish Jagielka was a little fitter, and we might have got away without taking Carragher.

And as for King... He was a brilliant player in 2004. The reason he hasn't been playing for us for the last 5 years is coz he's a cripple, not coz he's not talented. He's still a cripple, so what's changed to make him a must have all of a sudden? Tottenham have come 4th, so his injury is less serious? Borrox.

It looks like it is all falling apart for F.A.B.

Carragher only came back into the fold because Liverpool are not in the Champions League so he is using them and depriving someone else of a chance to play at the show.

Fergie will be blamed of Rooney isnt 100%.
Wenger will be blamed for not having enough Eng-ur-lish
Terry will be blamed for dipping his wick in Bridges old candle

Who knows, I am sure The Sun will even try and blame Gordon Brown ;)

It's not all bad.

We're not one of the top three teams.

But we could/should always make the top 8.

And Greece proved that a solid team that can pinch th eodd goal have always got a chance.

We've got a manager with the tactical skills to give us the game plan to play tight against the best teams. We then need the players to be able to play to that plan.

Our fullbacks will need the help of the wide midfielders.

Our centrebacks will need the help of the central midfielders.

Our midfielders will need the help of the forwards.

We need Rooney to not get injured.

Simples.

Capello will want to play 4-1-3-2, with, I hope, plan b) being 4-1-3-1-1

Subject to injuries the back four picks itself, we have to trust that Terry and Ferdinand have got one more tournament in them, with Cole and Johnson as our, albeit suspect, fullbacks ( maybe Carragher to come on for Johnson if the defense needs shoring up ).

We need Barry to get fit to be the man in front of the defense. But hopefully Scotty Parker will stand up to the plate and prove to be an inspirational pick if Barry falls short. King can also play the role for a one off game.

Midfield of Gerrard, Lampard, and Lennon ( I'm told Lennon is better defensively than Walcott, but I think Fab prefers Theo ) Either way we are suspect defensively down the right.

With Heskey and Rooney up front.

Then if we need a stronger midfield we take Heskey off and stick on Johnson or Joe Cole, pushing Gerrard up behind Rooney.

It'll do.

It'll have to, really

Ferdinand has played less games that King and he can't train.

I don't think of King as cover for Ferdinand. Which is why I would have like Jagielka to go. He's not proper fit, but he's not as unfit as some.

I'm assuming ( hoping / praying ) that there is every chance Ferdinand will be fully fit by the time it all starts.

If not, then questions will be asked......

PS how quick is Dawson ?
