Well that's pretty much it for another year. Just a few games left, no comps though.
My year started with the possibility of not being a member of a club due to work woes as well as being highly dissatisfied with the club I was at. My game was staggering from sublime ( some gross 74's saw me cut to 10) to suicidal and a lot of the fun had gone out of the game for me.
A highly enjoyable Spring Meet at Homer's, along with a game with David Howell at Bearwood Lakes and all of a sudden I was "without" a club.
Continued as a pay'n'player for a couple of months until I hooked up with CVG who was a member at AYlesbury Park. I'd played there a couple of times but not for 6 or 7 years. We began playing every friday and although my game was in tatters I enjoyed it enough that when work picked up and the Finance Director (HID) gave me the nod, I joined up.
The friday's continued and still my game was in shreds - the odd spark but no flames at all.
Into the Autumn and I was able to compete in 3 competitions, finishing 2nd, 3rd and 1st. At last my game was showing signs of recovery. THe win saw a cut to 9.6, agonisingly close to returning to the single figure handicap I held 7 years ago.
Whether I've now got used to the course or my swing is stabilising I don't know for sure but my scores are now much more consistent and breaking 80 is becoming a habit.
The fridays are now getting a bit more competitive since Bg Bro (Fragger) has joined. He hasn't beaten me yet and I hope it stays that way.
As winter rattles in I'm looking forward to continuing to improve so I can make a full-bloodied assault on reaching 9.4 or below next year.

Handicap at start - 11.1
Handicap now - 9.6

Have you had a good year, bad year or average year?

Overall not a bad year for me.

Started out the year still a nomad, but played some half decent golf, and some damn good courses on "away trips" (Brora, Royal Dornochh, and Machynys Peninsula spring to mind)

Half way through year got into the club of my choice (at vast cost, but thank you, thank you, thank you HID for paying it for me.... XXX). Got given a provisional handicap of 20 (ludicrously low) but eventually got scores to match it - culminating in 2nd place in the monthly last month. Not had as much fun playing golf for ages. Gonna play through the winter & come out roaring next year.

It has been a good year for me. I have played about 15 new courses (a lot for me in one year), met some of the guys on here, gone to a few meet ups (Ascot, Goswick, Belfry), and generally had a good laugh.
Golf wise, I have been off 11/12 for about 20 years, but at the end of the season have managed to get down from 11.3 to 9.7, and so am also teetering on the edge of single figures.
Not sure how much I will play now before March, as for once, I feel a bit golfed out.
I have been the Captain of my golf society this year, and had the final meeting on Thursday. A little 37 points around Sandy Lodge won the day, so I had the dubious pleasure of presenting myself with the main prize. 37 points with one lost ball, and a penalty drop out of a flooded bunker.

I am still spending money on golf stuff (even though I am not going to play much), I have ordered a Mizuno scratch sac pencil bag to keep in the car in case of trolley bans (if the urge to play takes me, or I end up at HTLs gaff - I am not carrying my trolley bag ever again). £35, so ok to just stuff in the boot on the off chance.

Well it's been a very quick year indeed. A year that started with a neck and shoulder injury which didn't allow me to swing freely until March/April time. A fairly major health scare and a change of job and somehow I managed to fit in a bit of golf.

My golf had deteriorated over the past few years. This year I played more mediocre golf and ended up at season end with a handicap of 12.0, the highest it's been for a long time.

A series of lessons and a lot of practice and I am now striking the ball a lot better. I've learned to use the legs in a better manner, I've lost weight this year so I can now turn through the ball a lot better than in recent times. End result, better ball striking and less trips into the left hand side of the course. Progress at last. Still work to do on this front though.

Statistically, my putting and short game have been my strong points, they had to be ;) Next year, I want to consolidate what I've been working on since mid summer.

As a result of some changes in my life I have enjoyed my golf so much more this year. Even when not scoring well I have still enjoyed it. I've missed that in recent times.

A change of job has given a more settled home life, no working away etc, so my time for golf has improved.

On the forum front, it was good to meet so many of the guys at Goswick and to meet the Scottish guys again at Letham. Here's hoping we can do more of the same next year. :D

Not bad, played bad for most of the season with little or no movement in my hcp, hit September and won the Rabbits trophy, bob walker trophy and a mixed comp one, shot a 49 pointer to get to 19 but since then nothing great just average golf.

All in all I've had a very good year especially as it's my first year playing golf ..........

I've joined a brilliant club, I've got a handicap (it's 27 but it will be lower in a years time), I've met some really nice people and I've had fun ....... you couldn't ask for more ;)

One of my best years that I can recall.

Started off at 11.8, and some steady scoring saw me finally reach the magic 9.2, before playing badly in Sept to slip back to 9.5

Better year than the last 3, improvement in handicap, won the odd cup or 2, decent year overall.

Not as good as I had hoped for. My first year back golfing after a 20 year layoff. I used to play off single figures then. Starting handicap of 18 which after 3 cards wasn't too bad. I have won a few and finished in the top ten on a lot more. I have heard more than my share of bandit though. To be honest I am moving on to a new club in Jan, the club I'm at is in transition and I do not really enjoy playing there so hopefully with the better weather and a new settled club I can go on to lower my handicap to something more respectable. I am setting my target at 12 and if do better great! It's good to be back swinging again.

Overall, very enjoyable year with reasonable progress on the game side.

Only been playing for about 2yrs and joined my first club 12months ago.

Played more than 100 rounds on my home course with best being a gross 78 (HC 17).

Also managed to play on 10 other courses (5 new and 5 repeat offenders) with the highlight being allowed on at Muirfield (winning 3+2 to boot!)

Can't wait for next year. Winter golf in the West of Scotland is a labour of love. Cold and windy are fine but it has rained everyday for the past 6 weeks!! Roll on springtime!!!

Hi,

I can’t complain really. Senior champ for the second year, In the 36 hole final I was taken to the 33 hole before I won it. Fair play to my opponent, he just ground it out hole after hole and I can remember a hole that was higher then par between us. Finished in the top ten scratch scores from the three main meetings at my other club. Won a HC and scratch medal and just missed out in one or two other comps. Hit the odd special shot that makes you wonder where it came from. Had loads of two's, three medal rounds with two two’s in each. Goswick was good, well the first day was, the second was awful. Had one or two special rounds, one where I started with a quad bogie 8 and still got round in 78, the other where I had four double bogies and still broke 80. Plenty of total rubbish rounds but I know people who would like to be out playing rubbish, so I can complain. Oh, got down to category one for the first time ever, back up to 5.5 though. Ah well.

Handicap stayed exactly the same for the second year running 9.2 though it was better than last year, the iron play has really come on and the putter is still working well. Managed to qualify and win the connor cup (stroke qualifying then top 32 matchplay) winning 3&1 in the end iirc. Managed to miss the awards this year but have the plaque and name up in gold leaf. Not quite the year I was expecting handicap wise but being no worse off, not a bad year.

Having been out of golf for quite a few years, the season started for me at the end of September with a round in Vegas where I once again caught the golf bug.

On returning home I promptly joined my old club. Still to get a handicap but enjoying it like you wouldn't believe.

Managing to average around the 80's so hopefully I can keep it up if not improve over the winter and looking forward to 2010 (maybe I will get to meet some of you guys).

Also finding this forum has been a real bonus to answer some of my daft golfing questions.

Cheers all.

Not a bad year, took my h/cap down to 5 ( a huge drop all the way from 6) Played several new courses, won a few at my home course and joined a new one for next season. Heres to 2010.

Not a great year but seen my handicap drop from 8 to 7 and won junior championship. Apart from that no scores at all but i have got more consistent so hopefully catergory 1 next year.

Joined a new club which i have been very pleased with - well organised and forward thinking and the course has been in good condition.
Handicap has gone from 7.7 to 9.1 yet i won the club Net MatchPlay in my first year.
Had a great annual golf trip to Dumfries - Powfoot and Southerness are superb courses and we had cracking weather for Sept time. I even won our matchplay comp there! Dumfries is also a good night out and we had a good laugh with the locals.
Managed 2 games for the 8-15 league, lost both matches and never got another look in.

Up and down is the phrase i believe i am looking for!!

That said, i've kept at it and am hopeful we'll get some games in over winter and looking forward to the start of next season.

Not the best year for me started at 0.7 went to +0.2 and finished the season at 1.0 so not all bad had few wins and a few disapointments.

Big highlight for me was winning the league the cup the teams championship and comming runners uo in the northumberland foursomes!!!
