A for me, started the season off 5 finished the season off 5....4.8 exact. At 64 years of age staying at 5 is A. That after 30 plus comps over three different courses throughout the season. Won a couple of comps and a few golf union vouchers. Also shot a par comp round after a triple bogie start, lifting both scratch and HC. Mind you,25 putts helped with that score.

The one that got away was at Dunbar GC when I shot 3 over and that after I birdied all three par fives.

Oh, shot some shockers, but I cant remember them funnily enough.

A for me
Handicap down from 3 to 2
Won club championship and county champion of champions
Part of county team that won the east division but we only managed third at the county finals
Didn't play as many different courses as usual but some crackers in there like Birkdale, Royal Troon, Loch Lomond and Trump
Only real downside was my driving went completely to pieces and I felt I've been struggling off the tee all year. Think the handicap would be much lower if I'd been able to keep driving as I have been over the last few years. Frustrating that everything else improved but the strongest part of my game went AWOL.

Still good though, very good.

A+ for fellowship.
C for attendance.
F- for individual performance.

Happy with that - loved every precious minute despite the poor scores this year.

Handicap wise a B for me overall. A good start to the season saw me drop from 12.6 to 10.5 by the end of April with a nice win in a Spring medal. Since then I have been very consistent but not managed to get any more cuts and climbed back up to 11.0. Had a few good chances along the way but blew them one way or another.

Played a good selection of new excellent courses, with Carnoustie and Machrihanish topping the list, so it has been a A year from that perspective.

B for me, from 8.6 to 6.2 which I'm over the moon with and won the summer knockout better ball at home course which is nice, but that was mainly due to scrambling well, short game and putting get A's, b for the irons, but f for driving, was a shocking year for the driver but it's ok as I know what I need to do.
Other than trying to maintain or go lower than 6, my only target for next year is a medal win.

B for me

Won 2 medals at my home course. An open at a course I'd never played before. And a massive regional works comp at a new course.

Came down 5 shots to 14.

Got loads to work on for next year though....starting to think about single figures.....scary

D for duffer for me.

Having said that, it's been an enjoyable year of golf with some great courses played in some great company.

As the season has come to a close I've started to find a bit of form with three buffers in my last four comps so maybe next year I might see more than one cut and put a stop to my handicap climb of the last two years.

I've also got a new found interest in using old golf clubs which has been great fun.

Forum wise, I'm sure I speak for everyone when saying that we tragically lost a true Gentleman and forum legend this year, to rickg.

D for me

Struggled all season with my driving and as a result handicap went up from 10.0 to 11.6.

A rare positive was qualifying for the knockout stage of the County Handicap knockout competition.

Away from how I played I did get to play some great courses

Championship at Carnoustie,
Old, New, Eden and Jubilee at St Andrews
Beau Desert
Hodgkin at Woodhall Spa
and Lindrick

F-
Handicap some how got cut from 6.0 to 5.6
Havnt played much to much going on off course
Dropped out of loads of games to much going on again
Moved house, been in a car crash and been injured by it.
A very poor year. Really considering not joining next year and maybe sell clubs

B+ .. had 11 rounds under par and shot a -5 65 as my all time low. The last few months though have been bad. Battling a nasty duck hook

A- for me. Got my handicap down from -54 to -32.5 (-36 was my goal), won a netto comp, came second in the netto club championship, played a few exciting new courses, played my first ever birdie and met a lot of my minor goals as well (like playing par on a par 5 hole and such). The only reason there is a minus in front of the A is that I still did not manage to break 100. Think I might have to cheat and find an easier course for that :o But well, that gives me a good starting point for next years goals.

D for me.

Handicap went up by a stroke (11.6 > 12.5); putting has been horrific all season, and I struggled with injury and a loss of form for much of the season aside from a six-week resurgence in Aug/Sept where I played some nice stuff.

Lot of hard work ahead over the winter.

A+ for me. Started the season at 19, set target of 15 with a hope of realistically making 17. Had two comp wins in two weeks back in March/ April and got cut to 13. Played a few new Courses (St Georges Hill and The Berkshires, very happy with an 86 round the Berkshire Red early in the year). Been out on the course 146 times so far this year - mix of 9 holes or 18 holes - even 72 holes in June. Played my best round ever 3 times this year, at my home course, broke 80 three times with a 79,78 & 76. Played our front 9 in level gross on more than one occasion. Game feels like it's gone a bit backwards of late, but still hanging in there. One more medal next weekend, but even a 0.1 there will keep me at 13. All in all it's been the best year of golf I've ever had.

D-

"S-C has not excelled himself this year, hcp going from 1.2 - 2.0 and played like a turnip in club and county championships and similar important events. He remains obsessed with technical issues and consistently does not apply himself simply to the shot in hand. Oddly, he did find some semblance of form in a county match but this was sadly an anomaly.

He seems to enjoy himself enormously on the course with PP's and takes great delight in playing different courses - would like to see more of this, please. Recent events have taken a curious turn after a chance meeting with a Walker cup winning captain and he seems to have rededicated himself to the cause with promising signs. The faculty watch with interest".

A- for me. 12.7 to 9.9 , broke 80 off the whites for the first time and then did it again a week later. Won a monthly and a midweek medal and the masters medal for the season too. Still can't get my name on the boards though hence the A-. Now in touching distance of the holy grail which i honestly thought was never possible for someone like me. Maybe even the ESR might be kind to me and I can start the season as a SFG !!!

This is a difficult one to grade this year

I started the season with a swing that had carried well over the winter and felt really solid. Sadly when the season got underway my right eye suffered a detached retina and several weeks of post op time off and changes to the vision afterwards, this seemed to bring unwanted swing changes and some poor results.

I lost the ability to hit the driver long, with a fade, and started to slice and then power slice. I had lessons to correct the problem and worked, and still am, on a draw bias and ended the season with a few decent results and back on the starting handicap of 12. I did change most of the bag, back to game improver clubs and an M2 driver, and feel really good again and dropped my swindle handicap to 8 which, whilst clearly too low it does make me concentrate more ready for next season.

I guess as I rapidly approach 64 that I'm reasonably happy, played some lovely courses and, everything considered, figure the season has been a c+

C- for me!

Handicap stayed similar to last year (went up and then came back down).
I either played well and scored badly or vice versa.

Did pretty well in some of the bigger county events, finishing mid table (I had the joint highest handicap st the start of the day) and beating plenty on better players in the kedleston Goose (previously won by future stars like Westwood, Sullivan and David Lynn).

Played some more nice courses - Swinley Forest being the pick of the bunch, and had my first hole in one on the 4th at Sherwood Forest.

Here's to next season

A+ for me as my goals/targets are very simple i.e. play as much golf as possible and enjoy myself doing so, and have managed to do both with some aplomb this season.

A for the enjoyment of the game
D for the quality of the golf played

Had a kidney operation in April and still limited by old back problems, took a while to get into the flow
Short game is not bad, but everything rests on the driving, If I drive well I will score well, if its spraying all over the place, well thats that.

Played some wonderful courses for the first time, Swinley Forest, Berkshire Blue, Burford, Berkhamsted

handicap has gone up from 18.8 to 19.4 and although I have beaten Imurg 17 times this year so far, he has won 27 times.

Actually hit a bit of form the last couple of weeks, so hoping this will continue over the winter.

Going to be joining Whipsnade Park in April, so a change of scenery beckons
