Can I ask how it's helped?

Year round golf, change of scene, better facilities, better course?

Its complimented my membership at the players. really well. The players suits me as its a bombers course with 5 par 5s that i can reach. Burnham is a lot of irons off tees for me, and irons have to be a lot more accurate.

Its also meant i am playing with strangers most weeks which is something that helps me get more in the 'zone'.

It will also help even more now, as its in great condition whereas the players was closed yesterday due to the horrendous rain.

Cheers for the feedback.

I was considering looking for a 2nd membership, maybe Coxmoor or Sherwood as they're sand based and more suited to winter golf. Also wondered if the change of scene can help, being less familiar with the course/club may prevent the "familiarity breading contempt" idea.

Also the fact that Sherwood is a bloody good golf course!!

I drive an hour (good run) to Burnham but its a steal, a top 25 course in england and always in bone dry condition. The fact i have qualifiers all year round is a great thing for me as it means i wont get lazy and not practice/play over the winter.

I'm there for the golf and nothing else - leave Swindon at 6, warm up, tee off at 8 and am home by 1.

B - Decent year. Achieved my primary goal of sorting out a proper handicap, and pleased with how it came out - a 15. Had a couple of 0.1's to start in comps but had a couple of small cuts since. Played some lovely golf courses too, had 3 trips to Spain and looking forward to more fun, more golf and more new courses next year.

This was the first year since at least about a decade ago that I actually went and played regularly - once a week throughout the summer months. So understandably I saw a big improvement. Don't have a handicap as I'm not a club member yet - but I saw my typical scores around 18 holes drop from the 105-110 region to the 95-99 region. Also, back in May I wasn't even using woods as I couldn't hit them to save my life, but I went from that, to getting decent consistency with the 3 and 5 woods, to even buying a new driver which seems to suit me much better than the old one. I got a new set of irons in August as well so it's been all change really.

Joining a club for the first time around Christmas/Jan so that will be a whole new adventure for next year.

Well I started the year at 5.5 , got down to 4.8 and ended at 5.1 , won a big comp beating 127 others , but other then that fatherhood has taken more of my time then I thought it would so much so I am thinking off going to social membership next year as I play so little and with fees of £1600 I am thinking is it worth it , great course but I just do not play as much as I would like , maybe timeout for a year is the way to go

to sum up
love my golf , maintained my handicap just , need to get out more , now over 2 months since I played ....................EYG

I didn't get down to single figures - sitting at 10.0 - but I made a major and magic discovery late in the season that significantly changed my iron play for very, very much the better. I discovered I wasn't turning my hips properly on my backswing and have got myself doing it now - if you must know :) So a few rounds over winter and a few competitive matches should see me in fine fettle for the start of next season.

But I will not be sad to see the back of 2016 - from a family perspective this has truly been my annus horribilis

Stayed at 2, swing changes with my coach are embedded and striking the ball really well with that great thump sound, practised hard working on spin control with my wedges and around the green and working on speed control with the putter.

So quite happy with this year considering the start of it.
