If you visit a Glaswegian in the afternoon they'll say to you "you'll be stiying fur yer tea?" if you do the same in Edinburgh they'll say to you "you'll hae hud yer tea!"

Being born and bred halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow I saw this from both sides. One of my fondest memories of the canny Scot's idiosincracy was my old Granny who always put her hat on when answering the door. If it was someone she didn't want to see she would adjust her hat and say, " Och that's a shame, I'm just goin' oot." but if it was someone she wanted to see, she would pull her hat off and say "Och it's you. I've just got in mysel'. Come on in, the kettle's oan."
