Out here on a stag do today and my first visit to this City. What a truly stunning place!

Would happily live here.

Been there a few times and loved it. Fantastic zoo, though would give that a miss if on a stag do. Worst New Years ever spent there on princess st, but Dec 30 th on Calton/ Carlton Hill was just brilliant.
Spoke to our managers secretary a good few years ago. She was a proper Edinburgh lady and was the poshest jockette I have ever met. She told me the street that runs parallel with princess st was full of prostitutes when she was a kid. She was disgusted when telling me.

All you can do in Edinburgh is going up somewhere and look down on Edinburgh. I can look down on Edinburgh all the way from London, so why go there ;-)

Anyway, I went once and really liked it. Great views onto Edinburgh!

Looking down is all very well, but one of the best things about being in Edinburgh is the backdrop of the Forth and Pentlands. So many cities lack a sense of placement in a wider context (all you can see is more city). Coming from a slightly more rural background, it's one of the things I never take for granted in Edinburgh: to see the hills and sea beyond the urban landscape.

spent a few years there at University. Always liked it, but now its just rammed with Tourists and Rude Spanish working in the leisure industry

Rose Street, it used to have 21 pubs and 'doing a Rose Street' was a youthful challenge.
Nothing to do with OP:o.
Half a pint in each pub, that is if you could stand the ridicule of ordering a half pint.

Been visiting Edinburgh for many years, and had my 50th there a few cough* years back. It has a bit of everything, and is classy with it.

After hearing that Glasgow is better in every dept, visited there several times. I just don't 'get' Glasgow. It's a Manchester/Leeds/Birmingham. It's got the bars and restaurants and the odd attraction but nothing that sets it apart. Won't bother with another visit.
