I sold some clothes on ebay which were new with the tags. One buyer has now asked for a refund as he says it doesn't fit very well, despite the listing stating there were no refunds. I think I'll offer a refund as I can't be bothered with the hassle of someone complaining and giving negative feedback.

My question is: is it fair for me to only refund the item cost and not the postage either way?

absolutely- the buyer is responsible for their postage costs to return the item back to you undamaged and still with the tags on.

Don't refund a penny until you have the item back and inspected.

This that's the way of mail order. Why should you be out of pocket.

As above if Ebay get involved you'll have to refund the total originally paid, however if you can arrange it between the two of you by DM you can word it that you're doing the buyer a favour, "the ad said no refunds but if you return it in the same condition and cover the postage costs I'll refund the item amount". Unfortunately you're going to lose out regardless as you still have to foot the Ebay and Paypal percentages so maybe try to avoid it if at all possible.

You can put no returns all you like in an auction but ebay can still force you to accept a return.

The more I see threads like this, the more and more hassle ebay seems these days and totally loaded against the seller. It's why I don't bother

As long as you are honest with the description and condition then there is normally no issue. I have no problem accepting returns on stuff I sell, buyers like it and people dont often return stuff.

I understand that. However people put no refunds on the advert for a reason and yet still have to jump through hoops to accommodate the buyers who seem to be playing the system

I understood if you refunded then theres no sale so no ebay fees

If you refund via paypal there is no fees.

For eBay fees to be refunded you have to cancel the transaction and buyer has to agree or ignore your request. If they dispute then you may not get a refund.

I would tell them to poke it, to me it is the buyers responsibility to ensure the clothes will fit. As long as you stated the correct sizing on the listing then it's not your fault and you should not be out of pocket. EBay are pretty good in the revolution centre and will be on your side as long as the clothes where as advertised with the correct sizing.

This ^^^^^^

Whenever I buy any clothing off of e-bay, (or anywhere online), I will check the particular manufacturers sizing on their own website before deciding whether I am going to buy or not.
I've been caught out a couple of times in the past (Ping and Woodworm shirts tend to come up particularly large) and just put it down to experience.

I sold some of my better halves' shoes on eBay. One pair had been worn once, with a few minor scuffs on them. Someone bought them and messaged me (2 weeks after buying them) they arrived late as she hadn't picked them up from the post office, and they were in worse condition than listed (I'd stated almost new with a few minor scuffs, pictured them etc and most importantly listed them as USED).

I told her to do one. Two weeks after buying them, sounded like she had worn them and decided she didn't like them. Best I offered her was a refund of the amount she bought them for minus the postage (worked out at about £15).

Needless to say she never even returned my email. Chancer.
