I've sold my old irons on ebay and what with their cut and the PayPal handling fee I've had to handover 12% of the selling price ....... what a con

Oh, and then when I go to post them I have to pay an additional £5.70 to get the enhanced compensation because their value is over £100 ....... so make that 14% gone ......

So you want them to run their service free of charge?...employ numerous developers to ensure the site runs smoothly, not forgetting the amount of server space required to host all the info.

AND you still made money by selling irons...you're right, total rip off, how dare they!

Ebay is not a con, as you agreed to the terms of using the site.
If you were to use a proper auction house seller permium varies between 15% and 20%
there are other outlets you could use for free though

The thing that got my goat was when I sold a DVD box set of 24. As it was listed as a DVD I couldnt charge more than £1.75 for postage! It cost more than double that and the price of a jiffy bag!

When you consider the amount of items for sale taking a 10% cut is a bit much, around 5% would be reasonable and they would still make money.

How can it be a con? Surely they provided terms and conditions to which you agreed.

Ebay is a tad expensive now however its one of the safest ways to sell golf clubs.

That's hardly Ebay's fault though is it?

I agree with the OP's argument, I think ebay charges are excessive. I have no idea how many items are sold every day on the site but over the course of a year it runs into multiple millions. I'm sure they could still make a decent profit (and possibly sell even more stuff) if they reduced their charges to 5%.

I think more things are being sold on gumtree these days, not sure how much they charge.

But you have a choice. No one forces anyone to use Ebay. If people stopped using it coz it was too expensive they'd reduce their charges to remain competitive. They charge what the market place will take...

"Oh no, someone made me do it."

Sorry but I don't agree. They have a business to run, not a non-profit making organisation.

Gumtree is free, why not use them. Or you should have made your item Buy it now!!!!!! and incorporated the charges in to the price. Its not rocket science fella..... It just seem a pointless post IMO, when you know how much they charge.

It was a 'buy it now' but they still take their %

Didn't know about Gumtree ....... But I do now
