I know some people have no choice....work, school run, babies etc but as a retired person who could stay in bed all day, I'm still up at 5am ish.
I know some prefer to stay up till late/early so which are you?

I’m a bit of both. Usually getting off just after midnight, and usually waking around 5:30am. Currently, 7:10am here. Breakfast is done, a few domestic jobs to do then off bowling early before it gets too warm.

I’m not retired but definitely more of an early person. Even as a teenager, I was never one for staying in bed.
I am not a fan of going out at night, much prefer lunch and a couple of beers in the afternoon.

Literally depends for me. During the week I’m never up later than 6am do a few bits and pieces, coffee and breakfast then walk into work at for 8am.

Of a weekend if I’ve no plans I can happily stay up watch films, go out for the evening and stay in bed till 11am

Rare to sleep past 4am (wish it wasn't) too often i'm up just after 3am, I've no need to be up that early but once awake i rarely drop off again

Definitely a night owl. Im rarely in bed before midnight and generally rise around 9am, unless i have a specific need to be up earlier.

Both unfortunately.
I'm a lifelong insomniac and an early riser.
On workdays I rarely make it to the 0525 alarm.
On days off, with or without golf, alarm set or not, I'm awake and up at 0530.
Whatever time I go to bed I'm rarely asleep before 2300.
It's weird because I'm not exactly a bundle of nervous energy but I am very active. I just don't sleep much.
Hoping that my imminent retirement will adjust my sleeping habits.

I’m an early bird and wish I wasn’t.

Post cancer surgery a few years ago I do get tired very easily late in the day so am rarely in bed much after 10.30pm. The problem is I sleep really badly, and am usually awake before 6am, and still feel knackered.

I simply go through life looking as though I’ve been dug up.

My main role in my working life now is covering shifts of people on holiday or off sick.

This can result in me working any hours of the day or night.

I’m fortunate in that 90% of my time I can wfh.

My sleep pattern can be all over the place but I’m used to it now.

If given the choice I prefer to be up earlier as I find the later I’m up the day just goes by too quickly

I honestly couldn’t say, if there was a competition for the world’s worst sleeper. I would be on the podium. Spending 36 years on three shifts plays absolute havoc with sleeping. The two nights we were away, the bed was too soft and rubbish to sleep in. Last night I slept like a log. Alarm at 6.45 for golf and I could of stayed in bed.

Like a few who have posted already, I wake up early each day, not through choice. It's a routine I can't seem to break.

I'm not a night owl. If I'm up late it wipes me for the following day.

I sleep for 8 hours solid, so bedtime tends to depend on the following days requirements.

No idea why, but started for me when I decided to remove an alarm from my life. If I have to be up for something, I just go to bed 8.5 hours before that (I need half an hour to get to sleep) and I wake naturally.

Drives wifey mad, so she still sets alarms etc.

Usually I am away with the faries for 10pm, so up at 6am.

I'm up at 04:30hrs for work and normally in bed for half 9 / 10 at night.
Even on my days off, I prefer to get up early, you just seem to get much more out of your day.
Love sitting in the morning with a cup of tea before the wife and kids get up.

I'm retired but I still love an early start. Usually up at 04:15 in summer ready for golf and then back home for breakfast by 07:30.

At first I used to hate getting up early. But now it's great, especially in the summer.
Tesco opens at 6, the roads, are empty, as is the car park and the tills. Usually home by 06.30-06.45.
Cushty :)

Now this I really miss. early opening or even better 24hr. If we had it here there's so much more I could get done while waiting for daylight

Things change as you get older. I was always one to stay up late and get up late, when I was younger. Especially through my drinking years, I'd just stay in bed past midday so the hangover was a little better.

Nowadays I have a toddler who wakes up at 7 to 7:30 each day, so that's when I wake up. I have a job obviously that I need to be up around then all through week, and when I play golf it tends to be at 8 or 9 in the morning, so I'm still up at 7 on the weekends.

I still can't make myself go to bed early though, I hate being alone with my thoughts, so like a lot of people of my generation it's way too much screen time in the evenings - whether it be watching YouTube vids or just scrolling on the phone endlessly. I have to try really hard to make sure my head is on the pillow by midnight so I can get a good 6 and a half to 7 hours sleep.

I've voted 'night owl' because that was natural state outside of any influential factors.
