Dropping A Hired Car At A Different Location

No. Generally you're paying for the convenience of dropping off one of another branch's fleet to a different branch, hence why there's a surcharge.

It costs them extra money to reallocate the cars afterward so they have good coverage, either they incorporate that into the normal pricing or charge transparently just to those who use that service.

I know why there's a charge, I was rather hoping for a way out of paying it.

So you're saying that you want the service and benefits, but don't want to pay anything for it?

If only that sounded similar to other arguments you have on different subjects..... (don't worry this isn't serious, just a gentle poke)

I really don't see why some on here see a request to find a cheaper way of doing something as a bad thing. They must have plenty of dosh to throw around and always just pay the price shown. Great if you don't worry about money and can do this. Taylormade must love you.

Yes we had the same issue last year, we had a three stop couple of weeks in Cyprus landed at Larnaca left from Paphos, I tried everything but couldn't get out of paying it (I can't remember how much it was in the end it could have been an extra £60)

I hate paying for nothing but if its what you have to do you have to pay it.

Woah, I even pointed out it was a jokey comment.

But actually if you must know (and this is very simplistic)... it costs £XX to move a car from place one to place two. This is either charged to you directly, or it's split between everyone who hires cars (even if they drop at the same place).

If you don't pay for this charge, then it ends up increasing the price of everyone across the board. Why should my price go up because you want an additional service?

I fully understand why, and how these costs are incurred, BUT sometimes there are ways to avoid these costs, booking late or whatever, I was just asking if anyone has any experience of this. That's all. Why should I pay full whack for something if there was a way of not doing so?
Has no one ever bought something from a shop that is having a sale on?

You're taking my initial post much much too seriously

I'm with you, it's a disgrace having to pay, I bet it's some EU directive behind all this. I also hear that when you land, you might have to show your passport at immigration and give your fingerprints like you are some criminal or something. As you are going there to boost their pitiful economy I think that is bang out of order.

You're not paying for nothing. You're paying for the convenience of being able to pick your car up from one location and drop it at another, which the hire company then has to pay for to move it back.

I've done this numerous times with Enterprise in the US, and we don't get charged. This is on a business contract though so maybe my company has negotiated for this to waived.

There's your answer, set yourself up as a business

1. The way around is it to ring them and say you have a better deal but if they can waive the fee you can book it
OR
2. If you are part of VIP programme you might have it waived (You do not strike me as VIP) lol
