Played a Final today, which I lost on the 19th unfortunately, but something's niggling me......

10th Hole, Par 5, 1 down, and I hit my Drive in the stream, which is a Lateral Water Hazard, Red Stakes etc.. I find my ball, and mark where I think it entered the stream, and take a drop within 2 Club lengths.
However, it rebounds and rolls back into said stream, so I do same again, just slightly further away, but still within 2 Club lengths. This time, its sits ok.

I play my shot, and Wedge to the Green, and then hole my Putt, for a 5, to amazingly halve the hole.

Question is, on reflection, was I right in re-dropping my ball, without further Penalty ?

As a 9handicapper, I should perhaps know, but we're all puzzled sometimes !!??

Thx all.

Worry not. You proceeded correctly. Rolling back into the lateral water hazard is one of the situations which require you to re-drop.

(All 9 of these situations are listed in Rule 20-2c but con't bother learnng them. It will will be worded much more simply in January but no change in having to re-drop if it rolls back into what will then be called a penalty area.)
