Driving Irons

I'm not that good with a fw off the deck and not a massive hybrid fan tbh although I carry one. I tried out a few driving irons with different results, the Srixon is scary but pretty, to much club for me, ditto the Titleist. The Adams Pro DHY is the money, gutted I sold mine, Ping Crossover I just couldn't get on with, Cobra utility is a beast for me, was hitting it in front of an LET pro as well and just flushing it, so I bought it. Great off the tee and easy off the deck, like anything though it's lie dependant.
I'm around 18 hcp at the minute and can hit it just fine.

Sounds familiar, my hybrid striking has gone hugely tats up (never been great) and my 5 wood ain't been used much recently as well due to poor strikes and not needing it on most holes. May try a cheap utility iron (Adams dhy etc) to see how I fare, it can't get any worse 😁

I did have the Mizuno MP-H4 2i. It was a fantastic club and went a mile. Didn't look to clumsy behind the ball and felt and sounded like any Mizuno forged iron when you hit it.

1 iron for me, callaway x-12 with a fairly firm to stiff steel shaft. Slightly long on the tooth but one of the most forgiving set of irons ever made.

Forgiveness Certainly more than say, a bladed long iron.
Easy to hit/hard to hitNo harder than 3-5 iron but mis hits do go off very low.
Do you have to have a centre hit No but if the club path or face angle is off you will get an exaggerated ball path.
Distance Hilarious distance. From 230 parkland to 330 links. Smange or Palindromic bob can verify the drives round royal co. down back in June. Round my own course we have a few doglegs that turn around the 260 to 280 mark and a driver can be too much most weeks unless into the breeze, the 1i is perfect.
Confidence building over driver. This is a clinker, it really deoends on how committed you swing at and through the ball. I see plenty of slow guys hit driver well but rarely hit a long iron convincingly. I believe you do need maximum effort with 1 and 2 irons.
