I went in search of a new driver today as I felt that I was launching my G15 far too high.

I selected all the clubs that I liked the look of and tried them on the range with the aid of trackman. My list of lucky bats were :-

Callaway Diablo Octane Black Tour

Nike Machspeed Black

Mizuno 630

The new Titleist range at £320 was very quickly eliminated.

Anyway onto the trackman and the results were fairly conclusive in nailing shut the lid on my G15. My current set up saw the ball coming off the face with an incredible 3800 RPM, that's almost 1000 RPM above optimum RPM.

To cut a long story boring the Callaway was next to bite the bullet and fall by the wayside. I felt that this club was possibly a little on the stiff side for me. The Project X shaft just didn't feel that great.

I liked the Mizuno but that white Fubuki shaft is just plain awful to look down upon, I found it very offputting.

The Nike Machspeed Black, WOW, this was the club I liked the look of best and it performed very well. It also had a Fubuki shaft which is only 50g in weight. It felt nice, it sat nice and it was certainly the most consistent of the drivers I tried today.

Am I man enough to tell you my stats?

Well according to Trackman my average carry was 226, running out to 250, and my RPM fell too just over 3000. I was told to add between 5-8% onto these figures for the crap range balls but it seems fairly average to me. Plus the 0 degrees temperature doesn't help.

Did I buy the Nike? No as I want to try the TM Supertri first and possibly the new Srixon Z-STAR driver if I can find it.

Love my white Fubuki shaft!

Very interesting post... How much was the Callaway??

Interesting you liked the Nike is it the all black one?

Have you looked at the new TM Burner 2.0? Looks very hitable, though you may not like the White head.

I was in AG today and the guy in their was showing me the callaway octane driver and it did look the business and was so light but I didn't bother trying it in the end. He also told me that in his expert opinion a Nicklaus driver was the best in the Market at the moment and he has bought one and it is the best purchase he has made... I left pretty much straight away after that.

I need a new driver but am going to wait for a while as I am not a bg hitter anyway and there isn't much difference between 3 wood and driver and am doing ok with my current Wilson staff one at the moment all things considered.

Craw, would you not consider swapping shafts rather than buying a new club, at least you can pick and choose. Saying that Id love to try the new D3 Titleist with a few shafts.

Craw not sure what you budget is but rather than the super tri have you consider a super deep ? they are aimed at reducing ball spin (i know - i want one  ) and if you can wait till after the R11 comes out i think there will be more around at a much more sensible price.

And you can have a choice of shafts

I had same problem with my g15 so i changed the shaft for prolaunch red stiff hitting about 30yds further much more penetrating flight!cost me 80 notes

I definitely want to try the new TM Burner. Not seen anywhere stocking the Srixon driver though

Did you get to read about it in the other golf mag today?

630, not fast track.

I want a new bat, not a new shaft, biggest mistake of my golfing life was changing from the Rapture V2 to the G15.

I wont go over £250 for a new bat, no way!

I had a look at the Super Deep but got the impression that it was aimed as "a players club", so I think I'd rather try the choppers version instead!

Interesting, I am just off the Nike website looking at the Machspeed and Natalie Gulbis hits it further than me! :o
